Helipad at Suvarna soudha is a grazing ground of sorts

“Government Work Is God’s Work” is inscribed in Kannada and English above the entrance to the Vidhana Soudha Bengaluru. And here in the so called second capital of the state we have the majestic unutilised Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.

Last year sighting reasons of security, ease of traffic etc a Helipad was constructed opposite the SVS. About 20 lakhs was spent on the same, but the same was used only once during the assembly session.

Now this helipad is totally damaged and another few lakhs would be required now to make usable.

The grass is not cleaned, there is water logging and what after Whose Father what goes?

Its all our tax payers money which has flown down the drain.

Will the work on the Old Dharwad road RoB finish by Dec 2017 ?

Our beloved MP Shri Suresh Angadi who in what one can say was a BJP affair, that too very selective, finished off with the Bhumi puja for the construction of the new RoB in place of the British era RoB on October 3, 2017.

He has been saying and many others as well that the Old Dharwad road RoB the work on which began on January 24, 2017 would finish by December 2017, see these below images and you only decide if it can finish in the next 3 months.

Infact the time required as per the tender is again 18 months, so if it has started in Jan 2017 as per schedule it should end by September 2018.

But the politicians seem to be in a hurry, yes we all know elections are near but that does not mean you get the time line down for the contractor.

In fact the progress of the Old Dharwad road RoB is very slow, see the images they are self explanatory.

Even we heard that some eager political persons have said the New RoB at Gogte circle will also be completed in 10 months, is that some kind of joke or is it just to take the credit; we did it, it happened during our times.

Why has development to be tagged to any political party in the first case?

Anyone who is in power has is bound to take development works for the overall development of the city, ward. But now a days taking credit is of more importance then in actual development.

Now many would oppose this statement and say such RoB’s can be built in 8 months, yes they can be, but for that you will have to get employees from Japan who will use latest technology and finish the work.

The images also show a sorry picture of the lack of coordination amongst the utility providers. The HESCOM hasnt removed its LT and HT lines we guess, they are visible infact in some cases very close to the pillars.

So if the HT lines arent removed how will work go ahead? Why cant the people who are interested to take credit come on the site and get the Lines removed from the concerned department. Also there will be water and drainage pipelines have they been shifted ?

So delay is not only because of the contractor it is also lack of co-ordination amongst the various departments and the haste of the political parties.

Grades are not important but Knowledge is

As the first phase of an academic year is about to end, I am sure all parents will connect with the idea that their kids were not alone in this journey but many in family have ended up sacrificing; some sacrificed their favorite serial, some missed the latest movie, some missed the navaratri sessions of dandiya and some had to put the guests on hold for post diwali visit. Sad but true that most of the parents are considering these exams to be a parameter to decide and judge the intelligence of their child. A performance scale is engraved and anything below this is highly unacceptable.

Just a food for thought did we study the same way as our kids do today? Were our imaginations restricted only to smart boards and 10 x 10 class rooms? Our grandparents studied while gazing the open sky, are we better off with intellectuals when compared to them? Have the facilities enriched our knowledge? Sadly no and in fact we are ending up restricting the future generations only to numbers that are already invented or words the dictionary already possess. We are restricting their knowledge only to what is shown to them and what the resource material provides. We are unintentionally limiting their imagination, blocking their thoughts, restricting their ideas, which means there will be very little to no inventions going forward and there will be less likelihood that Newton’s law will be ever challenged for generations to come.

Its high time parents also emphasize on sports, creativity and fun learning activities to bring out the best in their wards. While there are so many camps and activities that come up during vacations Science Hack Day is a unique two day event that encourages “Do it yourself” culture.

When at home you do not want your child to get their hands dirty or risk with something you are not confident about or probably with the growing culture where both the parents are working it is extremely difficult to find time, sit with the kids and get their creativity at its best. Hence some enthusiasts in Belagavi initiated a thought to have a common space to create, collaborate and connect to learn and hence Makerspace Belagavi was born. This is a space where you need to get your hands dirty to learn, you need not be super knowledgeable, importantly you need not be from science stream, this community welcomes people with open arms irrespective to age, profession, qualification. Science Hack Day India-2016 was reason for these enthusiasts to come together and get connected for one good reason and that is to “LEARN”.

Science Hack Day India-2017 is scheduled on October 14th and 15th again in Belagavi @ Sankalp Bhoomi, this time with greater energy to ensure kids do not relate science to physics, biology, or chemistry alone but feel science in all their day to day activity, relate to definitions and reproduce not by mugging up but after thorough understanding. Most of the experiences are promised to be cherished as lifetime memories.

Science Hack Day India belagaviLet’s make these words of Gandhiji a reality of today… “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever”

Join the team of Makerspace Belagavi and help encourage practical education system.

Airmen Training School Sambra Belagavi

Air Force Day 2016 – October 8

Source http://sainiksamachar.nic.in/ ( Indian Armed Forces Official Fortnightly)

Belagavi (now Belagavi) camp along with an airstrip was built in the early 1940s. This camp was set up as South Eastern Headquarters of the Allied Forces during World War II.

Situated adjacent to Belagavi airport, it was an ideal, peaceful and serene location for the grit and grind of military training of RAF in 1942. A three-foot pillar erected by RAF in 1942-43 stands as a memento and reminds us of RAF days at Belagavi.

The airstrip at Sambra was built in the 1940s. No 672 Squadron of the Royal Air Force was active at Sambra Base during World War II from February 26 to 30, 1945. The squadron was moved to Sambra to use it for airborne operations by South East Asia Command.

ats-sambraIn 1948, Belagavi base camp was taken over by the Special Reserve Police of Karnataka. In 1961, a detachment landed at this base to carry out specific operations for Goa liberation. No 1 GTS, located at Jalahalli, was shifted to Sambra, Belagavi in 1963. It was renamed as Administrative Training Institute (ATI) in 1980.

Later, the ATI was renamed as Airmen Training School (ATS) in 2001. It was reassigned the task of conducting Joint Basic Phase Training (JBPT).

In 1961, the Indian Air Force was tasked to provide air support to the massive ground force deployed for Goa Liberation. The AOC-in-C of the Western Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Eric Pinto, was appointed theatre commander of the IAF operations for Goa Liberation.

It was at Sambra that most of the air components were concentrated. No 45 Squadron had their main detachment of 8 aircraft based there. No 17 Squadron had one detachment of Hunters for air defence. Harvards, Otters and Mi-4 helicopters performed the communication and command duties.

During ‘Operation Vijay’, 6 Hunters of No 17 Squadron led by the CO, Squadron Leader Jayawant Singh took off from Sambra airstrip and attacked the wireless station at Bambolim, Goa. The attack soon left the wireless station a smouldering wreck. The Portuguese were forced to surrender on December 19, 1961.

All Through Training pattern (ATT), imparting complete training at one go for airmen trainees, was in vogue in IAF till September 2004. Under this pattern, the duration of the basic phase training was of 24 weeks. However, duration of trade training varied for different trades. Subsequently, Encapsulated Pattern of Training (EPT) was introduced in October 2004. It was known as Just In Time Training (JITT). Under EPT, trainees had to undergo four capsules of trade training. This pattern of training was in vogue till 2006.

With the introduction of re-structured trades in IAF, the Modular Pattern of Training (MPT) came into effect from April, 2006. Under MPT, training is conducted in modules. All ab-initio trainees undergo JBPT of 12 weeks at Basic Training Institute (BTI). It is followed by modules of trade training at various Trade Training Institutes. The trainees undergo three modules in the first eight years of their service.

All ab-initio airmen recruits undergo twelve weeks of Joint Basic Phase Training (JBPT) which aims to inculcate service ethos, value system and military bearing amongst the recruits. The Institute conducts four JBPT courses annually and trains 8800 ab-initio trainees every year.

BTI is headed by a Chief Instructor of the rank of Wing Commander. The recruits are trained at five different Squadrons, namely Katre, Lal, Latif, Majumdar & Mehar. The curriculum includes General Service Training (GST) and General Service Knowledge (GSK), apart from focus on improving the standard of English, Hindi and Basic Computer knowledge.

ats sambra

In addition to the above, Field Craft Training Camp (FCTC) is also conducted in order to acquaint the trainees with field situations and survival techniques.

Adequate sports and games events are organised, to instil sportsmanship, camaraderie and to emphasize the importance of physical fitness among the trainees. Software named ‘KARM’ has been successfully developed by this Station for allotting trades to the airmen recruits.

ATS, Belagavi’s vision is to ensure quality training during JBPT, and to mould raw recruits into potential Air Warriors within a span of twelve weeks.

ATS Belagavi’s mission focuses on JBPT with high standard of training, by inculcating military ethos and espirit de corps among the Air Warriors. The mission also focuses on preparing them to take over the multi-skilled tasks of the IAF.

The role of the Non-Technical Training Institute is to impart modular trade training of non-technical trades. These trades consist of Administrative Assistant, Accounts Assistant and Education Instructors.

The Air Force School of Physical Fitness was formed on February 1, 1976 with an intention of promoting greater awareness about physical fitness.

It is responsible for conducting courses like Officers’ Physical training course and Advanced Refresher course for Ground Training Instructors. Besides, Assistant Instructors Basic Physical Training Course is conducted for airmen of all trades.

Yoga is conducted on all Saturdays. Training on standard obstacle is imparted to the trainees to enable them to surmount similar types of obstacle a soldier is likely to come across in field situations. Besides, swimming proficiency and life saving methods are also imparted.

Construction of a 1000-trainee accommodation is underway at the Station to meet futuristic training requirements. The Station has also taken an initiative to make itself a paperless organisation. As of now 19 classrooms are equipped with interactive ‘IDEA’ boards, matching the latest trends in the fields of training. As part of Vision 2020, the Station aims to equip all the classrooms with latest training aids and ergonomics.

ATS, Belagavi has handsomely contributed towards crafting a disciplined and valuable work force, capable of undertaking challenging multi-skilled tasks of restructured trades in the future.

“Life is busy but enjoyable here”

Where on earth do you get fresh air and water free from industrial and vehicular pollution? Where on earth can you get farm-fresh vegetables at the lowest cost in the country? Where on earth can you spend so less on monthly family expenses?

The only answer to these questions is ‘Belagavi’. Personnel posted from metro cities prefer this place that keeps one busy in training and yet makes room for enjoyable lifestyle. Even the avenues for education for children are very good and affordable.

When one gets posted at this base, he or she will come across a common jargon – ‘Counselling’. Everybody posted here becomes a counsellor and inculcates the habit of preaching. This inculcates a sense of self esteem, one of the main reasons for the personnel of this station to remain busy and the same time happy.

Potholes deaths Civic body and contractor must be punished – D Roopa

D Roopa, Commissioner, Road Safety and Traffic Bengaluru has recently said that A good number of accidents occur because of apathy by road construction authorities.

She has written to the Select Committee of the Rajya Sabha, suggesting certain changes to the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, passed recently by the Lok Sabha and awaiting approval by the Rajya Sabha. The Select Committee is expected to submit its report on the first day of the Winter Session. The Bill, recently passed in the Lok Sabha, is yet to be approved in the Rajya Sabha.

She has suggested making road construction authorities criminally liable for accidents arising out of potholes and unscientific speed-breakers. Criminal liability should be imposed on the road construction authority like National Highway Authority, State Highway Authority and the municipal corporation for accidents due to pot holes. Because we see most of the accidents are caused due to potholes and these agencies constantly ignore the potholes.

pot-hole belaagvi

The commissioner also suggested amending Section 50 of the Motor Vehicles Bill to make it mandatory for buyers and sellers of used vehicles to appear before the jurisdictional RTO and get the ownership transferred.

Pointing out that in most accidental road deaths, especially involving two-wheeler riders were arising primarily due to potholes and unscientific speed-breakers and not due to negligent driving, Roopa suggested that the road construction authorities -NHAI, PWD or the civic body should face punishment for their negligence.

Belagavi has also seen deaths due to potholes, if her suggestions are accepted it will be a landmark as no where have we heard that the contractor or the civic authority who built the road is held responsible for such deaths due to potholes.

Parking loot continues at Belagavi railway station

The collection of parking fees at most places these days is an issue of conflict, as in many cases the contractor never charges the prescribed charges which were quoted in the contract.

Now have a look at this, a car was charged Rs.20 for merely 20 minutes of parking where as the board placed mentions minimum Rs.10 for 2 hours.

So this is a straight away day light robbery but no one seems to be interested in looking at this not even the SWR.

The correct fares as per the tender are as follows

For two wheeler
Cycles-R 3/- , M.Cycles-R 5/- Per Six Hour or part thereof.

For Four Wheeler

But none of us want to complain and hence this menace is on the rise and it will continue until we stand up and raise our voice against this loot.

We have been successful in running single screens like Globe, Prakash and with the ongoing trend we have decided to start this multiplex.
We will try and preserve all the iconic and heritage status of the theater. The marble flooring, the iconic front will not be altered. Infact there is nothing much we need to remove or replace. It has been a theater which we have seen movies and grown up and now it is my turn to give the city the best multiplex in its own iconic Arun Theater.
The best of sound and picture quality is assured and we plan to open it in January 2018.

Arun Multiplex promises to be next most sought spot for cine goers and all those old memories of watching those English classics can be relived.
