Sell Bottled water at premium and get a Free Jail term
Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader said on Wednesday that they had conducted raids on malls and multiplexes for selling a litre of bottled water for Rs 50 as against Rs 20, which is the regular price.
The maximum number of cases booked for the “unfair trade practice” was in Belagavi with 17 cases mainly with rereads to selling of carbonated beverages above MRP.

They cannot be charging exorbitantly for water. We will also take action against establishments which prevent people from carrying water inside their premises.
A first-time offence will draw a fine of Rs 2,000 while a second-time offence will attract six months of jail under Packaged Commodity Rules.
About 17 restaurants and stores were booked for selling bottled water & Carbonated beverages above the printed MRP in Belagavi.
Meanwhile, Khader said the government will soon issue directives for allowing movie goers to carry their own water into the theatres.
