Ashok Dalwai heads tops post in New Delhi
Belagavi : Senior IAS officer Dr Ashok Dalwai (57) native of Koujalagi, Gokak taluk, Belagavi District has been promoted as Secretary for Government of India. This is one of the highest posts an IAS officer can have below the level of Cabinet Secretary. He was serving as Additional Secretary, Union Agriculture Ministry earlier.
He studied primary education at government school in Koujalagi, then 5th to hsc at Sainik school, Vijayapura and BSC and MSC degree from Dharwad university. Born in farmer family, Ashok is highly fond of farming and he always wanted to contribute something worthy for farmers.
Ashok has served under the Odisha Cadre as assistant commissioner at Gundpur, district collector at Talhandi District of Odisha. The then Chief minister of Odisha had specially chosen him to work for this district which had a bad name due to malnutrition.
He also worked as divisional and Principal Secretary for Agriculture, cooperation and various departments in Odisha. He than came to Karnataka on deputation for 7 years. He worked as Raichur DC, BBMP commissioner and various other posts.
For central Govt he worked as deputy director general (DDG) unique ID of Adhaar information authority, (UIDAI) Government of India, Additional Secretary for government of India and now prompted as full time Secretary for government of India.
He was also youngest IPS officer in his batch, before IAS attempt, he had cleared IPS examination in 1981 at the age of 21. He was studying MSc Agriculture at Dharwad university at that time.
