Belagavi city is set to witness a historic transformation with the construction of its first-ever flyover. Spanning an impressive 4.50 kilometers, this ambitious project will extend from National Highway-48 (NH-48) to Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle, continuing towards the NH via Dr. Ambedkar Road and KLE Hospital. The flyover aims to significantly improve traffic flow in the city, which has been struggling with increasing congestion.

This project, which carries a staggering estimated cost of ₹4500 crores, is the brainchild of District In-charge Minister Satish Jarakiholi. It has received the green light from Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, marking a major milestone for the region.

A Solution to Growing Traffic Congestion

The construction of the flyover is a strategic response to Belagavi’s escalating traffic issues. As the city’s population and vehicular density grow, the need for efficient traffic management has become more pressing. The flyover is designed to ensure smoother vehicular movement, reducing bottlenecks and easing traffic throughout key areas of the city.

The flyover will begin near the Sankam Hotel on NH-48, pass through critical junctions like Ashoka Circle and Sangolli Rayanna Circle (R.T.O.), and extend up to Kittur Rani Chennamma Circle. It will continue along Dr. Ambedkar Road, eventually reconnecting with the NH near ICMR. This route is strategically planned to alleviate traffic at some of the city’s most congested intersections.

Infrastructure Integration

In addition to addressing traffic woes, the flyover will be integrated with other significant infrastructure projects. It is designed to accommodate the upcoming super specialty hospital and the new district collector’s office complex, ensuring that these important facilities are easily accessible.

Key Features of the Flyover

  • Rotaries at Major Junctions: To facilitate smooth vehicular movement, rotaries will be constructed at Ashoka Circle and Kittur Chennamma Circle. These rotaries are expected to significantly reduce congestion at these critical points.
  • Three Ramps for Traffic Flow: The flyover will feature three ramps designed to streamline traffic. One ramp will lead to the bus stand, another will connect to the RTO on the roundabout side, and the third will join the Mahantesh Nagar side road at Ashoka Circle. Similarly, at Sangolli Rayanna Circle (R.T.O.), three ramps will connect Chennamma Circle, Krishna Devaraya Circle (Kolhapur Circle), and the bus station.
  • Service Road to Sambra Airport: An additional service road through a proposed Road Over Bridge (ROB) will provide direct access to Sambra Airport, further enhancing connectivity for residents and visitors.

This flyover project DPR will now be prepared which will have more exact details of the project, currently this information is just from the Action Plan report.
