Karnataka State Government to declare Belgaum Fort as a Protected State Monument
As per the order from the Secretary, Kannada Culture the state is taking steps to declare the Belgaum fort as a protected monument site. The order issued on March 20, 2014 states that, the State is taking steps for declaring the Belgaum Fort and its area as protected area. It has been seen that the Income tax department is trying to do some construction near the fort, hence the DC is requested to stop any such work near the Fort.
It may be recalled that, on the 7th of February 2014, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Finance, Shri Jesudas Seelam, in deference to the sentiments of the people of Belgaum for Belgaum Fort, cancelled his proposed trip to Belgaum on 9th February 2014 to lay the foundation stone of the Income Tax Office-cum-Residential Quarters Complex in the foreground of the Belgaum Fort, almost in front of the main gate of the Fort.
The Hon’ble Minister directed that alternate land sites may be offered to the Income Tax Department and we learn that this avenue was also explored by the District Administration.
The move of the Karnataka State Government to take this Fort into protection is timely and highly appreciated.

Career Avenues for Commerce Graduates
by Suhas Rajput
A commerce graduate can certainly opt to continue his/her post graduation in commerce studies or can also explore the various professional courses available. With career options multiplying like never before, it is essential for every student to understand the needs of the industry and also the demand of new professional courses available around us. The summer season is undoubtedly hot (nature per-se) but also for graduating students who are in the process of deciding a profession for their life through the various post graduation courses/programs available around them. And needless to say, it is essential for the students to know the options available across various domains in order to make an informed decision, and to make the best out of option made for themselves. The following information makes us understand various options available for commerce graduates, as to the options available for professional courses around us:
Management Courses
Lets us start the options with the broad spectrum of management studies available to students after graduation. And no prizes for guessing the most sorted management degree – MBA. But off late, the same has been packaged with various options then the standard specializations viz. Marketing & Sales, Finance, Human Resource Management and Productions & Operations. Today, students can opt for the same post graduate program in domains like Finance, Banking, Retail, Hotel Management, Event Management, etc. The said options are available from various universities and also from private institutes, spanning into duration of six months to two years. It would not be wrong to mention that these courses are here to stay, as they offer a challenging and affluent career. Though, the student needs to understand the career path available with each of these domains and also what the course demands from the student. Since, these courses have their prominence in specific area and needs a detailed understanding by a student before he/she opts for the same.
CA/CWA/CS/CFA
Professional courses like these can be seen as a dream careers for many commerce students over a period of time. Though these courses need an extreme dedication and demands a lot of time, but at the same time these courses have been and will be in great demand by the corporate as well as public sector undertakings. The preparation for these courses need to be started well during the course of graduation and proves to be a strong ground work for the successful completion of them over a period of time. An individual can also render his expertise in these domains as consultants across various industries or also have a group of same professionals and offer their service.
Journalism, Mass Communication, Public Relations, Event Management & Advertising
With an increase in media houses and their importance in day today’s business activities, there has been a need for professional education in these areas. A majority of courses on these areas are provided by institutes run by corporate houses and less by university recognized institutes. Since, these courses have been introduced looking at the need of the growing industry, the same have been offered by them in a customized way. We would find good number of institutes across various big cities offering these courses and also providing an enriching career. Though these courses are offered over a span of two years (like a full time post graduate degree) by a few, but majority of them are either part time or short term courses spanning over six months to one year.
Hotel Management
Apart from offering a specialization in Hotel Management in MBA, we can find professional courses in this domain spanning over a period of two years or more also. Students interested in making a career in hotel industry can think of taking up this course from many professional institutes spread across the country. With a boom in the hospitality industry, the demand for professionals in this sector and a professional course in this domain ensures a successful career for a student.
Career over Higher Studies:
Having seen the various professional courses available after graduation, the student can choose to take a break of a year or two before going for the post graduation program. There are certainly various job opportunities available with banking (private and public) sector, government agencies, private companies, etc to name a few. In a few areas of management studies, it would be recommended for a student to have a work experience in the same area where he/she wish to take up the professional course. The same would be beneficial for a student to understand the practical aspect of the basics of the industry before entering the arena of professional studies.
I would like to end the article with the career option which is indeed the most respected and self enriching for any individual. Entrepreneurship is a career option which is indeed the need of the hour as it helps in generating employment for others and gets the best out of any individual. Though this is the most challenging and nerve crunching option that an individual can make, but it is also true that other professional courses are no less and demands a lot from every individual.

A ‘silver lining’ in the Indian Political tantrum ?
With all the big bang happening in the present political panorama in India, there indeed is hardly any medium of communication left untouched by the political clout of the country. There have been messages and statements made in form of promises and deliverables made by each and every person associated with the political parties. And above this is the estimates of the stupendous money being pumped into the ongoing political war, to the tune of Rs.30,000 crore plus (and we can take a guess of a more realistic number). Let us also know, that these projections or promises or manifestos are not new to us and we can also see the fulfillments of the same over a period of more than six decades.
As a layman, I expect my vote to have a value (which our democratic system has provided a great platform for) in realistic terms and to have a value which makes a real difference. I would choose to vote or may not, but am I being encouraged internally to go and exercise my democratic right or I am forced to do it as it is just another item in my duty list.
In the present political-cum-social-cum-economic-cum-technological-cum-global scenario, we see changes at a lightning speed and certainly people have made use of these parameters for their development (business groups or self including political classes). But what needs to be seen is, are these public representatives strong or worthy enough to see the future and prepare our system or moreover prepare themselves for the change that is going to happen. Though this is a pertinent question, and practically difficult to answer. But, we can certainly listen to them and foresee what they are capable of doing or NOT doing. And when I see a public representative engaged in a discussion and asking the citizens of the Republic of India, to demonstrate their voting power in his/her favour then I certainly wish to see the discussion/debates on the following lines:
How can I make a difference to the decaying ecological system around me
How can I solve the issue of un-employability
How can I make my youth be a torch bearer in the domain of science and technology
How can I make the educational system deliver what is required tomorrow
How can I make the health standards being benchmarked with other nations
How can I create sufficient employment for the people exposed to less education
How can I make my country a safe heaven for its citizens
And lastly, what I have done for these till now and what needs to be done in future
Rather than talking about secularism, vote bank politics, accusing and clarifying on hiring tainted ministers, digging negativity about opponents or their policies and above all beating their own bush. We have heard enough of it dear public representatives.
As a layman, I may not understand great economical or social or technological stuff, but every educated man today is asking for these things to happen and happen atleast at the speed at which the wealth of the political class has grown. And I feel, the debates and discussions that happen are one such instance where we can foresee the future and be rest assured of our good times. But alas, this silver lining is rarely visible yesterday, today and looks like the wait is still long to go.
The reason why I end my viewpoint on a not-so optimistic note is because amongst even the well renowned educationist and business stalwarts entering this political arena are hardly talking on the realistic issues and interested in gathering crowds and beating their drums. In other words, they are also being one among the predictable political class and no different.
And the day we see constructive criticism happening on pre poll debates and discussion, with an objective of making our motherland proud and grow across all forefronts – we may see it as a SILVER LINING in the political system. Till than, the words said by the Supreme Court in one of its verdict last year echoes in my mind ‘Only GOD can save us now’

Narendra Modi speaks at Belgaum
Narendra Modi Speech transcript -
I wont give a speech today. Let me talk to you…tell me is this a Parliamentary election or not? Should UPA not tell people what they did?
The mood of the people is clear. There is no need for any analysis. The wave is becoming a Tsunami:
want to ask those with infrastructure maps in their minds- farmers & youth want electricity. Mobiles are there but how to charge them?
In an affidavit the Centre admitted that Atal ji built half the roads in India in the last several years: Narendra Modi in Belgaum
Has Karnataka got ports? Does the sea not constitute a part of your “map” asks Narendra Modi
You took 60 years to make infrastructure maps so you will take 600 years to get them on the ground. Can people wait for 600 yrs:
Election is for Parliament but they keep talking about Gujarat. For an MA exam write MA answers not something else
Congress arrogance is sky high that is why they are refusing to answer the people
