Floods gone by, lest we forget the pain and agony

Belagavi recently saw one of the worst floods in its history maybe with the entire district been affected by flooding.

With heavy rains pouring from Monday, August 5 and the rain doubled up on Tuesday. Unprecedented rains and floods may have devastated lives and properties in parts of North Karnataka. The Govt has announced some compensation and the survey for the same is in progress.

What the city of Belagavi saw this time around was frightening. Most of the low lying areas which earlier also faced similar situation but the gravity of incident this time around doubled.

The flow of water was like a river in Maratha Colony, Samarth Nagar, Kapileshwar Colony, Shastri Nagar, Om Nagar, Cariappa Colony, SV Colony, MG colony, Mandoli and other areas were marooned in water for more than 4 days. Mandoli road had up to 6 feet water at one time.

floodingfloodingfloodingThe few houses that fell in various parts of the city have been surveyed and the MLA’s have promised some compensation under various schemes so that they could rebuild their home.

In SV colony, Maratha Colony, Cariappa Colony it is estimated that more than a hundred cars and more than 300 bikes/scooters were inundated in the flooding.

TV, refrigerators, furniture, beds, mattresses you name it and many of these things are now lying on the roads, were unusable. According to an estimate of more than 10,000 vehicles in the district have been affected by flooding.

But who will bear for this loss is the big question.

Citizens are asking who will pay for the loss? Furniture is gone, Refrigerator, Washing Machine, Mattress you name it all has been damaged by the flooding?

Who is responsible for this flooding? Has any action been taken or actions initiated so that this does not occur again?

The citizens of SV Colony, Maratha Colony on themselves cleared the drains and thanks to the new Concrete road which has been laid on the existing road due to the increase in the height the waterlogging was more by at least 18 inches and also stayed for a long time.

Has the smart city come and at least see where they have gone wrong or has the corporation done something?

Blankly nothing! Maybe they have moved some papers on their tables but in reality, nothing has changed.

The citizens have to change themselves now, as with the new Concrete road being laid everywhere the height of the road will be raised everywhere and the same problem may replicate anywhere in the city.

And the aftermath is still frightening after watching the broken gutters, Roads. Garbage on the road which is not lifted by the CCB. All this is inviting an epidemic. Residents of these colonies specifically S V Colony 2 nd cross don’t have access to their house as both sides it’s dug up, one side Amrut Yojana and other side a trench dug up in recent floods

Around 20 crores are spent on the Congress road, but no new drains were in the plan which would have cost 2-3 crores which would ease the flooding situation.

But who cares, media will show stories for 3 days, all will see feel bad and back to normal.

So many have lost so much of money now who will compensate?

Now it is time the citizens to come together as they did for the relief work to come together and fight for something now so that next year they don’t have to repent.

Floods are gone by, lest we forget the pain and agony; this could happen again, we must come to the front and raise our voice otherwise the same water will eat your money again and again.

High pollution levels in Belagavi says scientific report

Belagavi which was a village earlier is slowly moved to Tier 2 city and heading to the higher rank as development in the city is on peak through the Industries, infrastructure development, automobiles and many more. This is slowly leading to the increase of the many other problems like climate change by means of sunny summers, cold winters, and heavy rains.

Apart from this, there is one more problem which is peeping into the matter is pollution. Presently the pollution in the city is to a moderate level and is slowly moving towards the high level.

Prof. Sagar Waghmare and his team from S G Balekundri Institute of Technology, Belagavi has studied the city pollution by collecting 27 samples throughout the city covering the entire city. Which has inferred that the city is under the moderate to a high level of pollution?

The collected samples are been analysed for the heavy metals like Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Copper (Cu), Lead (Pb), Zinc (Zn) and Chromium (Cr) through Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) and later is analysed for the parameters like Contamination Factor, Degree of Contamination, Pollution load Index and Target Hazard Quotient (THQ) these all parameters talks about the pollution levels in the city.

pollution belagaviFrom the Contamination factor, it has been seen that 13 location out of the 27 are under the high threat to pollution due to the presence of a high amount of Lead and zinc as a pollutant. From the pollution load index, it shows that out of 27 locations 6 locations are under moderate level of risk while 12 Locations are under the high level of risk and to the surprise the some of the residential areas along with industrial areas fall in the high-risk zone of the pollution. This may be due to an increasing number of vehicles in the areas.

Target Hazard Quotient (THQ) is a multistep–procedure for estimating the pollution risks of heavy metal that are relevant to human in a given medium based on non-carcinogenic effects. This calculation is based on the average life of the human in Belagavi city as 65 years and the exposer of the human to this climate to 365 days which shows that Iron and Copper is the main metals which will affect the human health of the Belagavi city while the lead will be affecting the public health to the certain locations (12 Locations) this mainly includes the location of industrial areas as well the traffic singles.

This shows that along with the Delhi, Bengaluru, Belagavi is also growing in all respect along with the pollution in the city. The main cause which is observed for the pollution is the increase in the number of vehicles, wear and tear of the tyres due to bad road conditions and improper waste management from the industrial areas.

Dust your way out

From eye allergies to back-aches, the abysmal condition of the roads in Belagavi has also witnessed an increase among such conditions caused by bad roads. The roads in Belagavi have turned from bad to worse following rains.

All the major roads face the issue of DUST these days as the rains have stopped and the potholes filled with concrete blocks in some cases and mud in others.
With the sun shining bright after long time post-rain, two-wheeler riders are now faced with a dusty and a gravel ride. Vehicles are easily skidding off the roads leading to riders sustaining grievous injuries.

Bad roads are however just one side of the coin, as the sand on roads blows dust directly on to the face of two-wheeler riders which makes the visibility to almost zero in some cases and also causes allergies.

dust roadSeveral roads in the town have been in tatters due to various reasons and some of the potholes have been filled with mud and the loose soil is now dusty and sometimes the motorists can’t even see the vehicle in the front on College road, Mahatma Phule road just to name a few.

It was high time that the authorities fill the potholes on the roads properly which will not cause health problems to motorists.

The Congress road which was closed for white topping on June 2 has now been reopened for two way traffic from Monday evening.

The barricades are also back at first gate as they were earlier.

The work on laying concrete began somewhere in March and then in June due to heavy traffic jams the road was made as one way.

Still, the road on one side is not yet complete and there is a huge gap about 8 inches. The road on the side of the railway track is laid with full concrete but the other part is not yet complete.

congress-roadThe road from 2nd gate to 3rd gate had developed cracks and was also relaid once but still, there are cracks on the road we are told.

Still, a lot of work is pending which includes a cycle track, median lights and also gutters.

How Shravanbelagola helped Belagavi

By Swatee Jog

The unprecedented floods in Karnataka and Maharashtra stunned everyone and took them by surprise. The waters did not spare anyone. If the some were left devastated by the collapsing mud houses and their belongings being washed away, others were left stranded outside their homes, grappling with a situation where they were rendered homeless in spite of all the trappings of a comfortable life that they were used to. The situation in the rural areas is still grim. Not just the people, animals are stranded too. Owners come for a few hours every day, just to feed the cattle. Roads blocked, schools shut, fields devastated, the misery was unending. Houses are still inundated with a feet of water and where it has receded, it’s the slush that needs days to clear out. Amidst all this, it’s the tremendous help that shines like a bright star. Not just locals, but those from faraway places pitched in with just one objective- to help!

One such example is that of Poojya Charukirti Bhattarak Swamiji of Shravanbelagola Jain Matha. Belgaum has had a long association with the Shravanbelagola matha. In fact, in the Mahamastakabhishek ceremony held last year, it was Vinod Doddanavar from Belgaum who was appointed as one of the National Secretaries and only one from South India, who played a major role in the successful conduct. Hundreds of devotees from Belgaum had contributed to the function and volunteers rendered service. Jain holy men observe the four months of monsoon as Chaturmas where they abstain from traveling. But Poojya Charukirti Bhattarak Swamiji broke his decades old tradition and moved out of Shravanebalgola to head to Belgaum. He was joined by Poojya Bhattakalank Bhattarak Swamiji of Sonda matha , Swastishri Devendra keerti Bhatarak Swamiji Humcha & Swastishri Laxmisen Bhatarak mahaswamji, N.R Pur.

Belgaum played a crucial role in the massive relief work done by Swamiji and his team.

It was a hectic week for the team at Belgaum as the Ghataprabha waters inundated the newly constructed Shanti Bhavan at Yaranal, Tk Hukkeri, where Acharya Vardhman Sagarji Maharaj is observing his Chaturmas this year. 42 Jain Munis and Matajis were relocated at three different places as waters occupied each place in quick succession. They are currently housed at the Morarji Desai Residential school at Hosur near Hidkal dam. The Belgaum team has been managing the massive relocation of the 150 member team at Yarnal, shifting the materials, people, arranging essentials and then cleaning the slush at the Yarnal, Shanti Bhavan once the waters receded.

No materials were sent from Shravanbelagola to Belgaum for the relief kit, but instructions were given to procure all basic necessities that would suffice for a family of four for a week. A week ago, Vinod Doddanavar and his team sprung into action. Within hours of the instructions from Swamiji, material was ordered and delivered from Belgaum traders. Classrooms at Bharatesh were emptied and volunteers gathered, including several students. The team worked with precision to make the kit with high quality goods packed in. 5 kgs of rice, 5 kgs wheat flour, daals, sugar, all spice powders, tea powder, candles, match boxes, cooking oil, salt, toothpaste, soaps, mustard was packed in the kit, sufficient for a week. 50 students and volunteers worked for three days to pack these kits that weighed a good 14 kgs. 3000 such kits, worth Rs. 25 lakhs were prepared in just three days. Assembly line packing, labeling, dispatch in smaller vehicles was done using latest technology.

Swamiji traveled to Belgaum district the very next day and then began his travels. The Matha has already donated Rs. 10 lakhs each to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund of Karnataka and Maharashtra. With his team in tow, he personally traveled to places like Hukkeri, Yaranal, Ainapur, Athani, Raibag, Gokak, Konnur, Ugar, Shedbal, Kumbhoj, Teradal, Alagur, Jamkhandi. His visit to the worst affected areas like Manjari,Chandur, Kallol, Tirth, Saptasagar, Yedur, Darur, Chandur Tekdi, Sadalaga, Jugul, Mamgavati, Shahapur, Gundwad, etc. has lent a huge sense of confidence among the affected families.

Visiting the flood affected regions, interacting with the people, handing over the kits and inquiring about their needs, he has relentlessly put his efforts where his heart lay. The team starts at 7 in the morning and continues till around 8 in the night. One can see him immersed in understanding the plight with the only objective of thinking how to help solve the problem. What comes from the society is meant to be used for the need of the society, he said.

On the way were some experiences that would stun an onlooker. People who has lost their belongings, houses collapsed, kids with lost toys, elders with lost medicines and unable to recall names, miscreants spreading rumors of a dam burst and villagers dying of heart attack with fear, robberies in abandoned houses and a grim sight everywhere. But Swamji approached every village, listening to the problems and instilling confidence with his remarks of ‘Don’t fear, we are with you’. In such times, it is words like these that make a great difference.

Will Belagavi get more trains chugging

by Satish Kumar

The union ministry portfolio of MOS Railways accorded to our Hon MP of Belagavi Suresh Angadiji in Central government or call it Modi. 2.0 raised high aspirations for people of Belagavi to get better rail facilities and no doubt that though being witnessing many historical events and leading on many fronts, Belagavi never got its due share of railway development.

The recent success of daily train to Bengaluru from Belagavi with convenient time was the first gift, and the train to Goa is on anvil soon.

As I am talking about the raised aspiration of Belagavi there is one demand which is still pending for the last two decades and that is Belagavi Kittur Dharwad Rail line, AAB has brought this demand more highlighted through AAB site very often, we shared the RET (road equivalent tariff) survey with me published on 16th of this month, so what next now is the question

Will this RET survey and FLS (Final location Survey) be completed and sent for budgeting so this line gets pink book entry, and the construction commences, is the million-dollar question.

fls kittur railkittur-rail-linekittAdding more to the report we Belgavites aspire this line to budgeted for doubled + electrified and become a trunk line towards Bengaluru and the track should bifurcate from south Belagavi (Vadgoan area) towards Yellur Hirebagawadi Kittur and further to Dharwad, already the straightening work between Tumkur-Davangere is in progress, and will further reduce the time to reach Bengaluru comparatively.

The land acquisition is the greatest challenge though but considering the long term benefits such as less time and cost of travel, reduced carbon footprints, and good revenue, Even K RIDE (Karnataka Rail infrastructure development company) must come forward and execute this project will be sooner the better

I hope to believe and trust this happen soon with the state and central government with the same party in rule thrive to achieve the mission and vision “Sabka saath Sabka Vikas”

Phadeppa Dareppa Chaugule Belgaum’s Olympic hero

Phadeppa (Pavananjey) Dareppa Chaugule was India’s first Olympic marathon runner. He represented India in the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium and finished 19th with a timing of 2 hours 50 minutes 45.2 seconds. He hails from the town of Belgaum (Now Belagavi) in Karnataka.

P.D.Chaugule participated in the Marathon at the 1920 Antwerp, Belgium Olympics on 22nd August and finished 19th. It was just one run for him but a great milestone for India!
He was born in 1902 into a Jain farmer family from Sheri Galli. He used to practice for the marathon by running barefooted from Belgaum to Khanapur.   He expired in 1952.

BIPINCHANDRA CHAUGULE, has written a wonderful article Centenary year of India’s Olympic Games debut in the Asian Age.

Some excerpts from the same –

P. D. Chaugule of Belagavi (then Belgaum) for 10,000 metres run and marathon along with Shinde of Kolhapur for bantamweight freestyle wrestling, Kumar Navale of Mumbai (then Bombay) for featherweight freestyle wrestling, Purna Chandra Bannerjee of Kolkata (then Calcutta) for short races, Sadashiv Datar of Satara and H. D. Kaikadi of Hubli for marathon.

Chaugule was special because from an early age he used to participate in running tournaments ranging from one mile to cross-country and Marathon and had won several of them at various levels. In 1919 at 17 years of age, he had won 27 miles cross-country with an unofficial world record.

The contingent sailed to London from Bombay Port on 5th June 1920 in British RMS Mantua and the ship reached London on 22nd June.

Indians excelled in almost every event. Especially, P.D.Chaugule caught everyone’s eye with his lightening speed. But he had to face some racism there of getting beaten up and Soda water bottles being thrown at while competing. He somehow managed to sustain that.

Phadeppa-Dareppa-Chaugule
This is a rare photo of the first Olympic team of India. P.D.Chaugule is sitting on the right!

American news-papers had bold headlines such as ‘Hindoo Looms as Dark horse at Olympic Marathon, our athletes should keep an eye on Chaugule in Antwerp’.

Chaugule entered the qualifying heat of 10,000 and was running comfortably when around the third kilometer, a spectator tried to shoot him with a pistol but missed and Chaugule had to drop out. He was dejected but the marathon was just after three days. His friends managed to prepare him for the grand event.

Phadeppa-Dareppa-ChauguleThe day of the marathon, August 22, 1920, dawned. Scheduled at 4.15 pm, it was to begin and finish at Beerschot stadium. The distance this time was 42.750 kms, more by 545 metres that usual. Wearing shoes, Chaugule and Datar joined the group of 48 acclaimed runners. Kaikadi didn’t show up. The race began but Datar dropped out at an early stage.

Chaugule continued with his famous rhythm undeterred as he always was. Till about 15 kilometres he was doing well. By then the route had turned back to the stadium. He had all the stamina in the world with him and was sure to make it first there.

Phadeppa-Dareppa-ChauguleSuddenly it started drizzling. He had to slow down. But the water entered his shoes and through the bandages to the wounds of bites. That was the final blow of ill fate. The pains increased instantly and he slowed down considerably. Other runners started overtaking him. He somehow managed to keep it going and entered the stadium.

He was 19th to cross the finish line but he became the first Indian to complete an Olympic marathon. He was awarded a diploma of merit along with a few others, for finishing the Marathon within 25 per cent of the winning time.

Even today, P. D. Chaugule’s feat is unparalleled and therefore inspirational.

Foundries hit by recession – Parag Bhandare

The Metalworld has published an interview of Parag Bhandare Executive Director AKP Ferrocast (P) Ltd Joint Managing Director AKP Foundries (P) Ltd in its latest issue.

Here are some excerpts –

How is the foundry sector performing in the Belagavi cluster, Can you give an overview?

The foundries were performing well until Feb 2019. As of now, it has been badly hit by the recession and policy decisions of the government in the banking as well as the automotive sector.

As the Automotive industry is seeing a downturn in demand, how much it is going to affect the foundry industry?

Yes. A major impact is on most of the foundries (over 70% of the installed capacity of Indian Foundries) catering to the Auto sector like cars, HCV, etc and also the agriculture segment like tractors are badly hit. Also, the government’s focus on EV in the future ahead is going to impact foundries in a major way. With the government focus on EV by 2025-2030 has also put the major employer which is the auto sector in fix as well as MSME into a limo. Almost 2.5 – 3 crore jobs will be at stake if this happens. Even the developed countries like USA and Germany etc are taking this on a stagewise basis.

parag-akpWhat is the estimated size of the foundry sector in Belagavi region, and what support you expect from the Indian government to make this sector more viable?

We are roughly 2% of the total production of the country manufacturing around 0.25 to 0.4 million tons per annum. We are the largest manufacturers of castings in Karnataka and also the largest exporter in the state. We would need the interest levels of the finance to go down to below 7% and also extend duty drawback benefits for the export to around 8%. This will boost exports and also we can be more competitive in the world market.

AKP Ferrocast and Foundries are in the industry since 1978 for over 41 years in business. They are having a production capacity of over 26000 tons/annum catering to HCV, construction equipment CE, valves, engines, compressors, and power. They supply castings in fully finished condition including CNC machining, painting, assemblies etc. Their major customers include JCB, Cummins, CAT, GE, MAN, CNH, TAFE, Emerson, Wartsila and other MNC companies catering locally as well as their locations around the globe. They have a dedicated export division in place, and our export business is around 30% and 70% we sell in the domestic market.

Sexist ‘Men at Work’ signs

$

Authorities of the Belagavi Smart city need to get smart enough at least as their name suggests and should alter the “Men Working Ahead” boards which look sexist in nature.

This particular board placed at Shri Nagar garden where the White topping work is in progress also had women working but the board makes mention of “Men Working Ahead” only.

Signs should be gender-neutral, why the discrimination.

Now, this post can be treated as overreacting to a simple board, but in fact, small things need to change and only this can make a Smart city.

Men at WorkThe Positive side of the board is, they have thought of placing one to inform the public is a welcome step.

The “Men Working” sign issue isn’t simply a matter of symbolism. Signs such as ‘Men at Work’ unintentionally reinforce the idea that only men are suited for — and are capable of — doing outdoor physical jobs, where in reality the women also work.

The sign issue is important because it is indicative of messages and signs that women receive all day, every day, on the streets, in the board room, in every aspect of their lives, especially professionally, that either ignore women or disparage women.

No-one knows Kamli

Some times disasters happen in life for no reason. Disasters could be man-made and on other instances products of nature’s fury, disasters can happen any time. Sitting at home glued to television screens watching people suffer and giving them sympathy is what most people tend to do. There are some however who put themselves to the service and try to share the pangs of those suffering, these volunteers as we call them, gain nothing from this work except satisfaction, or should we say they gain the most important thing in life, they gain happiness.

This story is however not of the volunteers, it’s the saga of a nobody, nobody because that person is not known to many, anybody because that person will not be missed by anybody.

This story is of Kamli, it can be any name, what’s there in a name. Kamli is an elderly lady, all she had was a hut, a thatched hut bought by her husband just before he died, he did not have much money, so he had taken a loan from a local landlord, he died before the loan was over and by then he had already paid thrice the price of the home to the lender . You need not wonder because even if you take a home loan from a nationalized bank you do the same thing, you work your entire life to get profits for the bank. Kamlis husband was no different, he died and left a loan for her. She worked hard for the last twenty years washing utensils and eating leftovers, but finally last years she managed to finish the loan or so she was told by the landlord’s son whose father was now suffering from Alzheimer’s and could not remember how many he had duped in his life. Kamli now sixty, finally has a home, four walls and a small kitchen next to her bed, she had no concept of banking as the prime minister account opening scheme was never told to her, all her money was in the only stainless steel tiffin box she had at home. She did have a few groceries, and some old clothes given by the good ladies who thought to give her old clothes were great charity, but kamli was happy for even if poor, she had something she could call her own, her home. The last thing she called her own, had died twenty years back succumbing to alcohol and leaving her with a loan as his only legacy.

home-fallJust when things had come to a blissfully positive halt, the fearful night came, it was raining and Kamli was sleeping next to the stove on which she had cooked today, it was cozy next to the fire and the leaky roof had water wetting the floor of the entire house otherwise. The rain was a little too heavy that night, but Kamli was not scared, she had seen many such rains in the past, and she slept like a log after all the hard work of washing utensils all day long. Suddenly she was woken up by something cold, she opened her eyes and could see that one of the walls facing the river was no longer there, half the roof had collapsed and there was water everywhere. The river next to her home was overflowing and the water was steadily climbing. Within no time the water was up to her hip, she had no other option but to leave, it was raining heavily and all she could take along with her was herself, she had lost everything including the one thing she called hers, her home.

home-fallKamli did not know where to go, she knocked on the house which she cleaned but they did not want to have a guest so late in the night, Kamli spent her night sitting in the temple. She was wet, she was sleepy and she was tired. She knew the next day she would have a place to go at least to wash the utensil as the ladies in those homes would fall sick if they did it themselves.

The story, however, did not end here, next day early in the morning the local leader came, he came with a cavalcade of photographers and be found Kamlis hut most photogenic, he stood by the wreck and took some selfies too, he promised her would help, the chief minister came to see Kamlis hut too, only he did an aerial survey as he had to save his government too, Kamli was a much lesser priority. The home minister came, the finance minister came all of them have so much sympathy, but none anything other than that. The photographers, media personals, leaders of opposition all came in their numbers and brought their own boats. Kamlis hut, life-saving jackets, and boats were perfect for a photo, each one assured justice to Kamli.

The volunteer came and brought food, some of them came to help, some came for photographs but they all helped, at least Kamli had something to eat, each time there was a truck of relief material, she had to stand in line and sure enough something was there. The volunteers were the only ones helping at this time, local mandals, neighbors who had something to share all helped, but the leaders did nothing. Sometimes photos were clicked and the poor old Kamli was an object of much appreciation for photos, most politicians wanted to get themselves clicked with her. She was an instant celebrity and photos with her could be used for subsequent elections.

Then came the vaccine guys, actually, magic drops, each one came with their drops, some with dengue, some with chikungunya and others with malaria, Kamli never knew prevention of diseases was so easy. Politicians, bank employees, lawyers, social workers everyone came with their drops and the best thing was the photos again, it was like pulse polio day and Kamli only wished there were magical drops which would make all her problems go away. People came with their drops and wallah photographers and again giving drops to Kamli was the most desired photo.

One day someone from the administration came to visit Kamli, he told her that the government will give her five thousand rupees to build her home, but they needed her Adhar Card. Kamli had never heard of an Aadhar Card, so now there was no way she would get any compensation, she actually in the eyes of the government did not exist, she was again a nobody. She never lived in her hut and she never had a home it seems. By this time the water had receded and Kamli was in the photo frames of most politicians, she was only there in those frames as there was no home she could stay in.

Kamli had no money, no hope, no husband, she had no food, she had no identity and she had no home to go.
Kamli is the story of any common person, a person who needs help, a person who needs love, who needs a space of her own, an identity. Kamli can be anyone because disasters are truly secular and unbiased. Let’s help Kamlis but let’s be more sensitive too, wish no more disasters come our way, and there are no more nobodies who will suffer.

As the present Dharwad-Belagavi railway line passes through Londa, it takes more time to travel by rail than by road. It has been a long-standing demand of public and elected representatives of Karnataka to lay a direct line between Dharwad and Belagavi preferably via Kittur. To implement this work, the Final Location Survey for Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi (90Km) is now included in the Budget 2019-20.

Shri Suresh Angadi, Hon’ble Minister of State of Railways was instrumental in getting the work approved, in order to fulfill the public demand. Now Survey for Final Location for the proposed new railway line alignment has been sanctioned. In a review meeting held recently on 01.08.2019 in which Shri Suresh Angadi, Hon’ble Minister of State of Railways decided that the work shall be taken up immediately. Final Location Survey is assigned to Rail Infrastructure Development Company (Karnataka) Limited (K-RIDE) which can quickly complete the survey with State Government support. The survey will start after work is awarded and the agency is fixed.

Hon’ble MoSR has indicated that the progress of the survey work will be reviewed every fortnight and whole work shall be completed in 2 months.

The proposed new railway line passes through Dharwad, Kittur, and Hirebagewadi to reach Belagavi. The distance between Belagavi and Dharwad will reduce by 31 Kms once this new line is laid. This will benefit the public of Dharwad and Belagavi, making the journey between these two smart cities easier and quicker. It will also enable the people of Belagavi to reach Bengaluru, the capital city of State of Karnataka directly.
