Since the pandemic commenced each day one new unsung hero is coming up and helping with his contribution.
Each one is aware of the recent shortage of oxygen and then several groups came forward to supply oxygen cylinders and Venkatesh Patil of Belgaum Oxygen Private limited has refilled 1882 oxygen cylinders up to Friday for free.
All those cylinders are been supplied by various NGOs like COVID Care Group, Jan seva COVID Centre, Facebook friends circle.
VK as he is known to many came forward on the occasion and helped the needy, by refilling the O2 cylinders for free.
To add to this he has refilled the cylinders as and when required day or night, as soon the empty cylinders reach the factory they are refilled.
The RamlingKhind Galli was widened to 60 feet with an aim to ensure smooth flow of traffic, but as soon as the road was built it has become into a parking lot and now the police have officially declared it.
Somewhere in July 2015, the said road was widened to 60 feet with an aim for smooth flow of traffic but now the Police are making it into a Parking place.
File pic
It may be recalled that when the road widening was being done there was a backlash from the residents saying it would be a parking zone and nothing else and the same has happened. None of the residents got any sort of compensation even when Law makes it compulsory for such compensation. In fact, a few residents were left homeless as 95% o their home was demolished.
From Ashok Circle to Tilak Chowk in Ramlingkhind Galli both sides would be reserved for Car parking and if any two-wheelers are parked they would be lifted by the police.
From Nucleus Mall to Ashok Chowk bikes will be allowed to park but on Odd and Even basis.
The entire plan by the traffic dept looks to be a sham. With cars parked on both sides, the road width will be the same as it was earlier around 45 feet. So why was the road widened to accommodate car parking by demolishing the homes?
With the street now officially labeled as a parking zone from where the corporation will earn parking fees(not yet clear if car parking will be charged ), the residents were seen speaking is this for what we gave up our home and land.

Zydus Cadila has launched Phase II clinical trials of its Covid-19 vaccine candidate, ZyCoV-D, which showed promise in a Phase I study.
175 volunteers from Belagavi have participated in the phase 2 of the study.
The company completed dosing in the Phase I trial, where the vaccine was found to be safe and well tolerated in healthy participants.
Covaxin developed by Bharat Biotech, Hyderabad has commended its Human clinical trials phase 1 were done on 4 volunteers.
Both the trials are been undergoing in association with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) at Jeevan Rekha Hospital in Belagavi.
Phase 2 of Covaxin has also commenced now.
Phase II clinical trials of ZyCoV-D is for evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of the vaccine in a larger population.
ZyCoV-D is a plasmid DNA vaccine candidate. When delivered into the host cells, the plasmid DNA is known to translate into the viral protein and trigger a strong cellular and humoral immune response.

Direct train line between Dharwad and Belagavi has been the long standing demand of people of North Karnataka. The present Rail connectivity between these two important cities through Londa junction is circuitous route. The time taken for Rail travel is approximately 3 hrs.
Though earlier the initial survey was done in 2013-14, as the proposal was not approved then, it was decided to take up fresh survey. The work was entrusted to K-RIDE The survey was completed in record time of two years.
With this new line the distance between the three Important cities Hubballi, Dharwad and Belagavi will reduce resulting in significant development. Running time of trains between Hubballi to Belagavi will also reduce
The New BG line will have following stations i.e. 1) Belagavi 2) Desur 3) Kanvikarvinkoppa 4) Bagewadi 5) M.K. Hubballi 6) Hulikatti 7) Kittur 8) Teguru 9) Mammigatti 10) Kyarakoppa 11) Dharwad
For this new line State Government of Karnataka has committed to provide land free of cost and share 50, cost of construction Upcoming Industrial Corridor of Belgaum — Kittur- Dharwad will be benefitted from this line.
The existing alignment passes through difficult terrain in Western Ghat via Londa which increases the journey time. Presently Mumbai- Bangalore fastest trains take around 21 hours as they follow the circuitous route via Guntakal This new line will save about 3 hours of journey time between the two important commercial centers.
11 stations inbetween Belagavi and Dharwad.
Land for the project will be handed over to Railways free of cost by the State Government of Karnataka and the construction cost of the project will be shared as 50:50 between Railway and State Government of Karnataka. Railways share is chargeable to Extra Budgetary Resources (EBR-IF). 3. This issue with the concurrence of Finance Directorate of the Ministry of Railways.
Currently organizations are facing challenges in contact tracing & in maintaining social distancing at factories, offices, work places & hospitals due to COVID-19.
At SenseGiz, we have served many large enterprises with our asset & people tracking solution, and in the current COVID-19 pandemic, we have built on it to help prevent further business shutdowns. With our solution, Social distancing can be enforced in any factory/office environment and detailed historical contact tracing is done to minimise disruption and quickly isolate only the affected people and areas. All products are designed, developed and MADE IN INDIA for the World.
Key Features – Automatic audible Alerts to violators, Location tracking for contact tracing, Generate historical reports for repeat offenders, Inactivity alerts in case someone takes off the band/tag, Focus on your operations & productivity, Prevent overcrowding & geofencing, Adhere to govt norms & quickly contain any outbreak.
People are the most important assets of any organization. We realized that SenseGiz’s contact tracing solution can be easily adapted to create a better, more secure way for organizations to allow their employees to feel more confident about going back to work,” explained SenseGiz Founder & CEO Abhishek Latthe.
They have two solutions
OPTION A – ENTERPRISE
For full fledged Historic location & contact tracing, Geo-Fencing, Over crowding alerts & Social distancing enforcement.
OPTION B – PRO
For Social distancing enforcement & contact tracing at economical costs.
ADVANTAGES of the SOLUTION
We help enforce social distancing at any workplace, identify violators, prevent overcrowding in specific areas.
App based solutions rely on each person turning on the GPS & Bluetooth at all times on their phones, which is not practical.
Many workplaces do not allow use of phones on the work floor, & people might not carry phones all the time or keep them in pockets/purses which would severely degrade tracing performance using an app based solution.
Data remains private to that company only and is not sent to 3rd party servers as in case of app only solutions.
Tags are reusable & can be re-assigned to any other employee/user at any point.
Inactivity alerts if people take off the tag/band- which helps to ensure 100% compliance.
Ensure a safe working environment with our connected worker solution.
Location of violation as well as detailed route history of the infected person for any day will be shown, to enable the organizations to sanitize the particular area visited by an infected person.
High Accuracy : Our tags use the same electronic modules which ensures high accuracy compared to the usage of different smartphones from manufacturers with varying accuracy when used for social distancing or tracing.
Accurate Location :App based solutions can track people on streets, but for indoor locations at workplaces, such apps cannot tell you which floor did a person visit & will not trace the path within the buildings as GPS coverage is not reliable inside buildings. Our solution has detailed floor & room level contact tracing.
Physiotherapy or physical therapy is a treatment methodology majorly sought for acute or chronic pain of musculoskeletal origin. It also involves treating movement dysfunction or physical impairment resulting from injury or illness of musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory or of endocrinological origins.
The first world war and the epidemic of Polio, a hundred years ago, marked the start of the profession which grew in dominance during the second world war as the world required the attention of physiotherapists for wounded soldiers who returned home with amputations, burns, cold injuries, wounds, fractures, and nerve and spinal cord injuries. The later years of the 1960s and ’70s saw the expansion of the profession and have continued to grow substantially further in the 20th century with a lot of evidence for treatment utility based on research being added to the field. So, physiotherapy is just not a method but science that has grounded strongly through a lot of quality research conducted worldwide and whose evaluation and treatment are all based on the evidence found through this quality researches. In India, the foundation for physiotherapy was laid in 1952 at Bombay following an epidemic of poliomyelitis. Later, in 1962 the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP) was formed which has played a crucial part in the development of physiotherapy as a profession. Although the field continues to grow scientifically, awareness of physiotherapy among the community and other medical professionals is eluded.
The International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO) Code 2264 of the World Health Organization (WHO) defines physiotherapy as “Physiotherapists assess, plan and implement rehabilitative programs that improve or restore human motor functions, maximize movement ability, relieve pain syndromes, and treat or prevent physical challenges associated with injuries, diseases, and other impairments. They apply a broad range of physical therapies and techniques such as movement, ultrasound, heating, laser, and other techniques. They may develop and implement programs for screening and prevention of common physical ailments and disorders”. As such, physiotherapy addresses the illnesses or injuries that limit a person’s ability to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Physiotherapists provide services that develop, maintain and restore people’s movement and functional ability to their maximum. They help people to improve on the quality of life whose body functions are threatened by aging, injury, diseases, disorders etc. They work in association with other health professionals to promote health, treat and prevent a condition and rehabilitate. They use an individual’s history and physical examination to arrive at a diagnosis and establish a management plan and, when necessary, incorporate the results of laboratory and imaging studies like X-rays, CT-scan, or MRI findings. Physiotherapy management commonly includes specific exercises, manual therapy, mechanical devices such as traction, electrophysical modalities such as heat, cold, electricity, sound waves & radiation, assistive devices such as prostheses & orthoses, and other interventions like pain education. In addition, physiotherapists work with individuals to prevent injuries and loss of mobility before it occurs by developing fitness programs specifically for that condition and occupation
In Short, Physiotherapists:
undertake a comprehensive examination/assessment of the patient
evaluate the findings from the examination/assessment to make clinical judgments
formulate a diagnosis, prognosis and plan
provide consultation within their expertise
implement a physiotherapy intervention/treatment program
determine the outcomes of any interventions/treatments
make recommendations for self-management
World Physiotherapy, a global body of 122 member organizations of which IAP from India is also a part, is committed to furthering the physiotherapy profession and improving global health. It supports the development of high-quality physiotherapy education by publishing entry-level curriculum guidelines, policies, and a range of resources and opportunities. It was founded on September 8th, 1951 and presently it represents more than 670,000 physiotherapists worldwide. In 1996, 8 September was designated as World PT Day. The day marks the unity and solidarity of the global physiotherapy community and is an opportunity to recognize the work that physiotherapists do for their patients and community. On this day lot of community, programs are undertaken to create an awareness of physiotherapy. The theme for 2020 World PT Day is “Rehabilitation after COVID-19”, and it seems to be very apt for the present state under which the world is reeling. I take this opportunity to explain the benefits of physiotherapy which can be helpful for the whole community during the present COVID crisis.
Coronavirus Disease 2019 ( COVID-19) caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), is a single-stranded ribonucleic acid (RNA) encapsulated coronavirus and is highly contagious. Transmission is predominantly by droplet spread (i.e. relatively large particles that settle in the air), and direct contact with the patient. There is still no specific antiviral treatment for COVID-19 infection, only supportive therapies including respiratory care for affected patients, especially in more severe cases. To date, COVID-19 patients who require hospitalization are presenting with pneumonia features and bilateral patchy shadows or ground-glass opacity in the lungs. Most people with COVID-19 have no symptoms or only end up with a mild illness. Small limited populations who end up in hospitals are in respiratory distress and require mechanical ventilation. The respiratory compromise caused by COVID-19 should not be burdened more by causing respiratory distress and thus various physiotherapeutic respiratory techniques are avoided during the acute phase. However, to mitigate the effects of prolonged bed rest and mechanical ventilation, the patient should be encouraged to perform active movements. That means doing exercises, as well as sitting up and walking around can be beneficial for early discharge. But a further key element in improving a patient’s lung function. There have been no reports of COVID-19 positive patients having high secretion loads that would require intensive respiratory physiotherapy/airway clearance. However, during the recovery stages of the disease, the patient can use the ACBT techniques and lung volume recruitment procedures to improve the lung functions and thus the oxygenation. I will be discussing the ACBT technique here and urge all to perform it in an isolated setup.
The ACBT is an active breathing technique performed by the patient and can be used to mobilize and clear excess lung secretions and generally helps improve lung function. ACBT can be performed in sitting or in a side-lying or prone lying position. Duration for ACBT should be for about 10 minutes or until your chest feels clear of sputum. ACBT can be performed once or twice a day. When you have more sputum, you may need to do it more often but for a shorter duration of time. If you are unable to follow the instructions then please do not perform the exercise.
ACBT consists of three main phases:
Breathing Control
Deep Breathing Exercises or Thoracic Expansion Exercises
Huffing
Breathing Control:
Breathe in and out gently through your nose. (At your own rate)
Let go of any tension in your body with each breath and keep your shoulders relaxed.
Gradually try to make the breaths full but slower.
Try closing your eyes to help you to focus on your breathing and to relax.
Gain control of breathing in this manner.
Thoracic Expansion Exercises
Try to keep your chest and shoulders relaxed.
Take a long, slow and deep breath in, through your nose.
At the end of breath in, hold the air in your lungs for 2-3 seconds before breathing out
Breathe out gently and relaxed, like a sigh. Don’t force the air out.
Repeat 3 – 5 times.
Huffing:
This is a technique that helps move secretions, loosened by thoracic expansion exercises, towards the mouth. A huff is breathing out through an open mouth and throat instead of coughing. Huffing helps moves sputum from the small airways to the larger airways, from where they are removed by coughing. There are two types of huff: A medium-volume huff and a large volume huff.
Medium Volume Huff:
This helps to move secretions that are lower down in your airways.
Method: Take a normal-sized breath in and then an active, long breath out until your lungs feel quite empty. Imagine you are trying to steam up a mirror.
High Volume Huff:
This helps to move secretions in your upper airways.
Method: Take a deep breath in, open your mouth wide and huff out quickly. Only perform 1-2 huffs together, as repeatedly huffing can make your chest tight.
Listen for crackles when you huff, If you can hear these, you may now need to cough and clear secretions; try to spit them out into a tissue or a sputum bowl. Try to avoid excessive coughing as it may be excessively tiring.
Repeat the whole cycle for about 10 minutes or until the chest feels clearer.
Persistent fatigue, breathlessness, and ongoing pain are recognized as some of the key challenges for the ‘COVID-19 long haulers i.e. those who have ongoing symptoms long after the initial positive test. Currently, there is no standard dedicated rehabilitation pathway for patients after they leave hospital. One can continue to do breathing exercises and keep themselves as active as possible. Exercises have been proved to reduce stress and depression and improve self-confidence and also improve sleep quality and duration. They help to improve the strength of muscles and also the cardiorespiratory function. Initially, till 6 weeks, the activities in daily life and additional exercises should be performed at low to moderate intensity, with a short duration of exertion so that there is no shortness of breath and fatigue. However as the world negotiates the potential long-term effects of COVID-19, after 6 weeks one can keep themselves active and do the exercises to their capacity while keeping a close watch on the shortness of breath and fatigue.
In the end I wish you all a safe and healthy journey and wish you all a very HAPPY WORLD PHYSIOTHERAPY DAY.

Footwear is a form of attire for the feet basically used to protect it from injuries from the harsh environment. In today’s world they are worn as a fashion statement to match their outfit or for a specific sport or activity. According to the archcheological findings footwear has been used since the earliest human history which dates back to 5000 BCE.
Later on with the civilisation there’s is more advancement in research to serve the purpose, sport, comfort and protection. Modern technology and the material used are highly researched today in the footwear industry. A gait analyser is used to study the walking pattern and other deformities and accordingly the footwear is researched with different materials like leather, canvas, etc for a particular activity or sport. The footwear industry today is a multi billion dollar industry which has given rise to stiff competition and research.
Footwear is worn to the office or workplace for a long duration. It is usually worn between 4 to 14 hours. Always remember to take off your shoes if working from desk for a long time so that you allow the feet to breathe and the muscles to relax.
As in terms of keeping the feet healthy and free from injuries, footwear are recommended for a particular work or activity. But even with the proper footwear a human is bound to get injuries. The most common injuries are as follows
Neuromas – occurs in those who use too tight and high heeled shoes in which the nerves between the toes are compressed and lead to a condition called Morton’s neuroma.
Stress fractures – seen in high impact activities like running, jumping dancing, etc. Usually seen in 2nd and 3rd metatarsals(long toe bones).
Plantar Fascitis – usually gives sharp pain in the heel when a few steps are taken. This is because of the tight fascia connecting your toes to your heel on the bottom of your foot. High-impact sports, extra weight, and jobs that require walking or standing on hard surfaces increase your risk.
Heel spurs – occur when calcium deposits build up on the bottom of your heel bone. Often, they don’t causepain themselves but can can irritate the plantar fascia, triggering pain along the arch and heel. Calf and foot stretches work well to relieve it
Bunions – This bump of bone and tissue at the base of your big toe forms when the joint connecting it to your foot shifts out of place. Narrow-toed and high-heeled shoes cause most cases, though heredity plays a small role. If left untreated can cause pain so severe it limits your ability to walk. Fortunately, treatments like ice, over-the-counter foot pads, and wearing shoes with wider toe boxes often bring relief.
Ankle sprains – This common injury occurs when the ligaments on the outer side of your ankle stretch or tear, causing pain, swelling, and sometimes an inability to bear weight. For mild sprains, rest, ice, compression and elevation—the RICE protocol—usually does the trick.
Achilles tendinitis – The lengthy Achilles tendon can grow thick, inflamed, swollen or painful when asked to do too much, too soon (for example, after beginning an ambitious exercise program). Tight calf muscles may also play a role. Often, pain decreases after switching from a high-impact exercise to a cross-training program, such as biking, elliptical or swimming, paired with moves to stretch and strengthen the calves
Before buying a pair of shoes remember the following
The shoes should conform to the shape of your feet.
Shoes should be made of soft leather, wherever possible, and provide your feet with sufficient room.
A flexible shoe sole is a must.

Life is all about living, life is the only thing you are running out of, yet you will run to save. This life serves it’s the purpose and soon is lost to eternity, but what matters is how you live it and yes what you will be remembered for.
This fortnight of remembering our ancestors and on the last day of the fortnight we will have the God’s coming down to reside with us for nine days, and soon it’s as if the festivals are never-ending. The serious observance of the memory of our ancestors, however, is the Mahalaya fortnight.
Homage and reverence to the ancestors and the dead is not new, the Egyptians did it and so did the Romans, the amazing thing is that all these cultures always thought that we need the same things in the afterlife that we enjoyed in our lifetime in the mortal world, and so if it was a rich man or a king he would be mummified with his favorite things gold, diamonds, women, clothes and so on, but sadly neither the rich, not the kings had any use for it and the wealth often feel in the hands of the tomb raiders.
Somehow the idea of the soul requiring comforts in the afterlife seems alien to me and even more absurd was the fact that it could enjoy the bounty of this life. This, however, comes under the purview of religion, something of which I am not the authority.
Traditions are born out of beliefs and rational thinking cannot be the rider when it comes to beliefs. Every religion has something in reverence of its ancestry, understandably their culture will have its own influence on it.
For starters let’s take Islam, where the pious ask forgiveness for their ancestors on a night called Shab e Barat, the day on which God makes new plans for the living. I however somehow find myself inclined to appreciate and even support a discourse in favor of remembering our ancestors, we are after all because they were.
The Romans revered their dead in February and called it Parentalia, we Indians, however, do it in the fortnight we call PITRU PAKSHA which is between Ganesh and Dasara and is consecrated with a ritual called Shraddha. In mythology, this corresponds to the battle between the God’s and the Demons which led to severe losses to both sides and thus was painful to all.
The day or tithi as we call it is the day of the demise of the father or the ancestor in that lunar cycle, but then there are separate days reserved too, for example if your ancestor died in the last one year you can perform the ceremony on the fourth or fifth day, if a lady dies and is survived by her husband it’s on the ninth say, if a child or a saint dies its on the twelfth and if a person dies violently or in war its the fourteenth day.
Don’t be worried if you are confused, faith always gives you a second chance and if you don’t know on what day there was a death in the family or if you forget to do it in time you can always do it on Amavasya or the no moon day.
I am not certain why different days are picked but it must be difficult for all the ancestors to commute between the two worlds on the same day and it’s also convenient for the pundits who can’t manage all the appointments in a single day. It is also mandatory to feed a Brahmin on that day and with two percent of the population, it’s difficult if everyone called one on the same day.
It’s a solemn affair however and we call upon our ancestors up to at least the last three generations when we invoke them. There is holy grass or Darbha (Kusha grass) which is tied on the fingers, this is said to call the ancestors and keep them there and there is the same Darbha on the waist and in the hair to protect from the ancestors if they get a little impatient. The general proceedings are in the direction of Gaya the most revered religious abode, considered the gateway to moksha and the offerings are mostly with black til or sesame and rice.
The feeling when the mantras are being chanted is electrifying and if you pay attention you can feel the energy surge. The basic idea is to sequentially invoke three generations of your ancestors and seek their blessings from a prosperous life to come and also apologize for the sins you may have committed.
It’s also a time for giving, giving food, giving donations and giving alms to those who are in need. Let me tell you that the philosophy of giving is an essential part of every religion. But giving it in the memory of your ancestors is unique to this fortnight.
There is also the offering of food to the crow, this is one of the most important rituals and the crow is the VIP on that day. The crow or the raven is revered in many religions and has a lot of mysticism attached to it. We believe that the crow will touch the food only if the ancestors are happy with you and have all their wishes fulfilled. There must be good spiritual reasons why the crow is the selected bird and I can’t really explain those, but I suppose certain quantities of the crow are largely responsible for this. The crow is a fast learner, is very observant, can prick you if you make it feel too uncomfortable, can live comfortably amongst humans just like our ancestors. A crow can sense food and never eats alone, once it gets a hint it can gather a crowd. You can see, the crow is the only bird which can adapt to any lifestyle, it does not migrate and can eat with an appetite, this would make it a natural candidate readily available in large numbers, would a sparrow with her poor appetite or a pigeon with attitude fill this vacancy.
The crow becomes the VIP as no one can touch food till the crow does and that’s one day you wish the world was full of crows.
Then comes the part where you eat with your family, its actually very rare that you get an opportunity to eat with your family, with nuclear families and growing differences its again the memory of your ancestors which brings families together at least for a day, something our ancestors would have done if they were alive and amongst us.
To me, this is the most important ritual of the day, families eating together.
The choice of food is rice, dal, potatoes, and kheer somehow ironical because neither my ancestors nor the crow loves so many carbs and at least a few of them were diabetics, but I guess on that day everyone has to behave, it’s a practice in some places in the northeast and the South East Asian countries to offer what the ancestors actually liked and there you can offer alcohol and meat too, I guess the ancestors there are more of the party types, but I love the sweet food once a year.
It’s actually very important to donate food as per our tradition and there is a mythological story which says that if you do not donate food in this life you may not get it in the next, Karna the hero of Mahabharata who was known for his generosity had to come back from the dead and donate food so he could get it in his afterlife. Our ancestors knew that food is more important than gold and diamonds and that’s why these rituals.
All the religiosity apart, remembering our ancestors is in my view very important. It is their hard work, knowledge of living that has guided is in difficult times, sometimes it is the wealth they have earned that supports us in our bad times. It’s important to learn from the ancestors and also from the history so we can follow the right path and avoid the mistakes that can ruin our existence. It is the legacy of our ancestors that we are living and it is their name that we are carrying. God, Teacher, and Parents are the reason for our existence and sustenance, we remember God everyday but its only apt that we remember our ancestors at least once a year.
