2 miscreants splash tar on cars parked at Laxmi Tekdi

Two unkown miscreants on a motorbike splashed a mix of kerosene and tar on the cars parked in front of the residences.

As many as 5 cars have been splashed with this tar at Buda Scheme 51, Laxmi Tek area at 8:30 PM on Tuesday.

The locals tried to nab the miscreants but they fled away. The police was called and while they were assessing the situation one more car was splashed with the tar.

Prashant Nirajan one of the victims speaking to AAB said, this was the first time such an incident has occurred in our area but it is very frightening. We are not sure what was the main motive behind this.

Garbage contractors wont lift garbage from Thursday

All the 10 Garbage contractors who are engaged in lifting the garbage from 48 of the 58 wards in the city will not lift the garbage from Thursday June 1 as they say they cannot work with the current remuneration paid to them.

About 300 tons of garbage is produced in the city and is transferred to the landfill site. But now the garbage contractors who is advance had written to the corporation that they will stop their work from June 1 if the remuneration is not hiked.

The corporation is now unprepared and if from tomorrow the garbage is not lifted it could create a hazardous situation as the rains have also started. This will also include the door to door collection.

The contracts of all the 10 contractors had expired but as no new contractor was ready to take up the work, the same contractors were awarded the contract again. But now that all the 10 contractors together have decided that they wont lift he garbage until the remuneration is hiked.

Special drive for Voters enrollment from July 1

As per the directions of Election commission of India (ECI) a special campaign to include names of the new voters of the age group of 18 to 21 years in the voters list will be held for a month from July 1 and all application will be disposed before 31st August said Deputy Commissioner and district electoral officer N Jayram.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, he said all all persons who complete 18 years age as on 1st January 2017 should register their names in the voters list.

The administration has become active on resolving the errors in voters list. Any person who wants his name to be included in voters list must have to fill form No. 6 with complete details and submit the form along with residential proof document at concerned polling officer.

The form No. 6 can also be submitted by post, online through National voters service portal (NVSP). On-line facility has also been provided for the non residential Indians (NRI).

Filled applications will be received at Belagavi one centres and about 4040 polling centres in Belagavi.

There will be two day special awareness campaign on July 8 and 22.

Voters can call toll free number 1950 to rectify their doubts, problems in the voters list and and get information to rectify errors in names in the voters list. The authorized political parties can also send their agents for the observations during this campaign.

Venkatesh Dhotre, who had passed IPS in 2014 and who is currently serving as SDPO in Assam has cleared the UPSC with flying colors and a rank of 246. A student of St.Xavier’s high school he later finished his PUC from GSS college Belagavi and completed his engineering from Bengaluru.

Pratik Patil an St.Paul’s high school Alumni secured a rank of 544 and he had completed his PUC from GSS and Mechanical engineering from GIT Belagavi .

Sudhir Patil of Sulebhavi secured a rank of 680 in the UPSC exams. He did his schooling in Chikkodi and then studied in Hubli.

Criminals throw chili powder, flee with 12 lakhs

The victim was returning home after closing his shop in Bhave Circle

Anil Porwal, who has a whole sale shop in Nargundkar Bhave chowk was returning home in Kelkar Bag at around 10 PM when two people stopped him near the Navgarah Temple(Kirloskar road- Kelkar bag) in Kelkar bag, removed his specs and threw chilli powder on his face and by the time he could realize anything they fled away with his bag of cash which had 12 lakhs.

The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

75% of the milk samples collected in Belagavi adulterated

The survey, ordered by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, concluded that Belagavi and other border cities consumed the most adulterated milk from both organized and unorganized sectors. Urea was the most common adulterant. As much as 75% of the milk samples collected in Belagavi was found to be adulterated, 40% in Hubballi-Dharwad and 18-20% in Mysuru. Samples from Bengaluru were and other two cities were found to be safe. 

The survey was conducted in September last year by FSSAI in more than 120 cities across the country. Over 1,700 samples were picked up and tested for fat, solids-non-fat (protein, carbohydrate, minerals), 13 common adulterants like vegetable oil, detergent, hydrogen peroxide, formalin, sugar, glucose, urea, starch, boric acid, ammonium sulphate, nitrates, and cellulose maltodextrine.

The other parameters, when verified with the milk samples, suggest it may well be true Belagavi has such a high quantity of adulterated milk. Border towns are vulnerable. Even independent reports suggest the same.

Arun Jaitley and Rajavardhan Rathore will be in Belagavi on 12 and 13 June

Addressing a media briefing MP Suresh Angadi said Union minister Arun Jaitley and Rajavardhan Rathore will be in Belagavi on 12 and 13 June to attend Sab ke Saath, Sab ka Vikas conventions

He further alleged that it is the state government’s responsibility on the failure of Adarsha gram program and various other central government schemes. The State government has intentionally not implementing the central government programs to prevent popularity to prime minister Modi.

Speaking on the troubles in VTU he said, the problem has risen due to irresponsible state govt. The university is under the Statute of the state and hence it will have to look into affairs. Angadi also said he will speak about the unfreezing of the VTU accounts by the Income tax dept with Finance minister.

Untreated Sewage water flowing in full glory at Marihal -Sulebhavi subway road

After Bellandur Lake in Bengaluru, it is now Varthur Lake’s turn to catch fire in the same city. The lake started to foam and spread all over making it tough for the commuters to negotiate traffic.
We also have a similar case of untreated sewage water been left ibto the small streams of water near Belagavi.

The poisonous sewage water is flowing in full glory at Marihal -Sulebhavi subway road. On one hand the farmers in Halaga are not ready to give land for the STP plant as the Govt is wanting them to part away with the fertile multi crop lands, and as there is no treatment on the water the same sewage water of entire city is flowing in farm lands in many villages surrounding Belagavi through water channels and streams.

The crops on the Bank of the Ballari Nalla have also been affected due to the same issue.

Lakkappa Hanumannavar left school due to poverty but now clears UPSC with 688 Rank

We have so many success stories of school dropouts being successful in life and here we have this inspirational story of Lakkappa Hanumannavar who secured 688 rank in the recent UPSC exams is an example of great grit and self inspiration.

Born in a family of farmers Lakkappa Uddappa Hanumannavar in a small village in Jaganur village in Chikkodi Taluka. They were able to somehow manage the house with another 2 brothers who were already working in the fields he too was forced to leave school to support his family. He worked as an agricultural laborer for two years and supported the family. His dreams of education were shattered. He left his own fields and started to cut sugarcane in others fields as it earned more wages.

The one acre land that the family used to sow was earning enough due to droughts and hence half acre was sold off. Now with half of the land available Lakkappa had ample time for him for studies and his father realized that he was more interested in studies hence asked him to join school again and complete his education.

His father also said you stay in Govt hostel which will give food and accommodation. After school he took up Science at Government PU college at Majalatti Village and then joined Agriculture university at Dharwad.

Last time he could not get a good rank in the UPSC exams but in his second attempt he secured 688^th rank.

Congratulations to his hard work and thanks to his parents who gave him an opportunity to pursue his dream, and he has realized it now.

FIR against Hotel staff for manhandling advocate and threatening to kill

Advocate Harshavardhan Patil who took the baton of putting cases against all those who charged bottled water above MRP had filed a complaint with the Kakti Police station but an FIR was registered today on Saturday after the Bar council intervened and threatened to strike if the police did not file an FIR.

Advocate Harshavardhan Patil speaking to AAB said, he had been to Irish House restaurant situated at Kakti on 20^th of May 2017 with friends for a birthday party.

During his stay there a few persons recognized him and lauded his efforts for his fight against the MRP of bottled water. At the same time a customer of the hotel approached the advocate Patil and asked him that the restaurant is charging SERVICE charge, which is now optional as per the new guidelines. But the restaurant was making it compulsory for all, saying they dont have any such orders from the head office.

Advocate Patil took this matter to the manager and after a small squabble, the manager deducted the service charge from the particular bill. Once this happened even others with the bill approached the manager for the deduction of the service charge.

Advocate Patil alleged that at this moment the staff got angry on him and manhandled him and got him forcefully out of the hotel.

Advocate alleged that they said “you are the advocate because of whom are suffering loss and we’ll kill you”.

In the preliminary inquiry out of the three accused 2 are not in town.

The Hotel staff has been charged under Section 341,504,506 of Indian penal code.

504. Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace

Noorondu Nenpu Kannada movie made in Belagavi by Desai’s will release on June 9

Belagavi based debutant producers Suraj Desai and Manish Desai were always eager to make a movie and here is their dream coming true with the Kannada Movie “Noorondu Nenpu” which means Hundreds of Memories under the banner of 3lion Productions with Ameet Joshi as the executive producer will release on June 9 statewide.

The film is an adaptation of a Marathi novel Duniyadari written by Suhas Shivalkar on which a Marathi Movie has been made with the same name.

Director Kumaresh, who is making his directorial debut in Kannada says Noorondu Nenapu is a period drama that reminiscence the college life of the 80s.
The film is backdrop of 1980s and has been shot in different parts of Belagavi in and around Camp rest of the film was shot in Dharwad and Bengaluru.

Almost 80% of the shooting of the movie is shot in and around Belagavi. We wanted to make a movie and shoot it in Belagavi and our dream has come true. We plan to launch the movie somewhere in February 2017 if all goes well and budget is about 3-4 crores.

With Chetan of Aa Dinagalu fame in the lead along with Meghana Raj, Rajavardhan, Sushmitha Joshi, Archana, Yash Shetty this movie certainly will appeal to the youth.

JSW will handover 878 acres revenue land which would then become part of sanctuary

The Jindal Steel Works Ballari (JSW) is in the process of purchasing the 878.1 acres of land within the area of Bhimagad Wildlife Sanctuary under the compensatory forest policy for its mining activities in Ballari district. Sources in the forest department have now confirmed that it is been done in accordance with the compensatory forest policy.

The 878.1 acres of land coming under survey number of 71 and 72 of Gavali village, Khanapur Taluka mainly consisting of grass land and had high volume tiger movement was not declared as deemed forest by the forest department.

The revenue land purchased by JSW steel will be handed over to forest department under this policy and it would become part of the national park or wildlife sanctuary.

It is very likely that in coming days more mining companies may come forward to purchase revenue land which is situated in wildlife sanctuary here as well as across the country. Once the revenue land company completes the sale deed procedure, villagers will have to relocate themselves from the core area of sanctuary as no human habitation is allowed within the core area.

There are about 86 revenue land owners who will have the tittle to the land and will have to execute a sale deed and transfer the rights to JSW. The best part of this as environmentalists say is that removal of revenue patches from the core areas of the sanctuary will make it more safer place for the animals. With the revenue lands going and it will be deemed to be forest land under the compensatory forest policy, human intervention in natural habitat of the wild animals will be drastically reduced. It will also have to been seen how and where the land owners will be relocated.

Tremors felt in Belagavi of Earthquake with epicenter at Koyna

An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter Scale hit Maharashtra’s Koyna region at 11.44pm on Saturday.

The tremors were felt for a few seconds in Belagavi as well.

Earthquake Department of Koyna Dam confirmed that the depth of the earthquake was 10km below the ground and the tremors were felt in a radius of 120km from the epicentre.

Many said they felt the Earth shaking for about 5 to 8 seconds.

Don’t involve politics in development works – Ramesh Jarkiholi

There is no need to bring politics in taking up development works in their respective constituency’s. All the elected representatives should work for the betterment of people, said district in charge minister Ramesh Jarkiholi to the MLAs and the president’s of the urban local bodies. He was speaking at the meeting to give approvals to Nagarotthana kriya Yojane at Deputy commissioner’s office.

District minister Ramesh Jarkiholi urged in meeting to set aside the political differences aside during development works and approved the lake projects.

Nippani MLA Shashikala Jolle complained against chief officer for not bringing the action Plan of lake work in Borgaon into her notice. The officer was answer less in the meeting.

Kudachi MLA P Rajeev urged district minster that action should be taken against such officer for bringing subjects in meeting without taking signature of MLA. Nippani municipal President Vilas Gadiwaddar backed officer by intervening. He said that the subject directly brought in this meeting as the MLA and other representatives would be present in meeting.

Belagavi pharmacist recognized for creating dengue medicine

Ramdas Raikar, Belagavi based Ayurvedic pharmacist who claims to have found first medicine to cure Dengue fever (‘Den-go’ a syrup) was awarded by ASSOCHAM for his unique research in the treatment of dengue fever recently at Bengaluru.

Ramdas Raikar is a BSc graduate from Belagavi and is behind the formulation of what he claims to be the first ever Ayurvedic medicine to control and cure the dengue fever at any stage.

Ramdas was born in family in Gokarna where his family was involved in serving the people with Ayurvedic medicine since many generations. He wanted to promote the use of Ayurveda and commenced his career by marketing medicines.

In the year 2000, he started his own firm as Ayurvedic research and remedies (ARAR) at Kanabargi industrial area in Belagavi where he started researching on ancient Indian medicine formulations with a 5 member researcher team.

After introducing Virocil an effective antiviral medicine on swine flue, Raikar formulated ‘Den-go’ a syrup made by various herbs including caracia papaya to control and cure dengue. Revealing the story of finding this medicine, Raikar said an Ayurveda student from Malaysia had prepared paper presentation on how the dengue can be cured by caracia papaya herb. We got that presentation and started further thorough research on it near about two years.

The new formulation was tested at Dr Prabhakar Kore research centre and at B M Kankanwadi Ayurveda college in Belagavi. Before giving to people the medicine was tested on the rats after injecting the dengue virus in them. The results of curing were positive at all stages. The medicine was distributed to thousands of patients who cured by it in 2009-10 he said.

Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by a mosquito. When dengue diagnosed in NS1 antigen stage, it can be controlled within 24 hours by this medicine and if it detected in IgM level, it can be controlled and cured in 5 to 6 days and if the dengue is secondary infection in IgM level, it will take 2 weeks time to cure says Raikar.

The product was awaiting approval from the Ayush department, for which he produced over 120 clinical reports of the medicines to formula committee. The higher officers at the committee literally teased me that how can a small pharma firm can formulate a remedy for dengue. But when I decided to knock doors of the court, the department gave me approval for the medicine in 2014 he said.

M S Faaruqi, Secretary for Ayurvedic medicine manufacturer’s association said ‘This medicine has been recognized as life saving drug at the central Council for research in Ayurvedic science (CCRAS), Delhi. After this medicine has come in the market, nearly about 200 similar medicines came in market, but they did not survive.

Ramdas Raikar further said in the initial phase, it was big struggle to introduce this medicine to doctors. But today doctors have realized the effect of the medicine. In just a year; 50,000 bottles have been sold in Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra. We are trying to make this medicine available at government hospitals in coming days. In coming days, we will be engaging in cancer research he added.

Women and child welfare minister Umashri  inaugurated a new web portal to get online applications for recruiting of Asha Activists. This has been introduced to bring transparency in Recruitment she said. She was speaking after launching the web portal during workshop on Koushalyabhivruddhi scheme at Suvarna Soudha Belagavi on Sunday.

There were allegations that the Agents are very active into the appointment of  Asha workers. This new system will eliminate the middlemen she said.

Anant kumar blames Congress govt in the state for not performing

Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers Anantkumar who was on a visit to Belagavi said that the Congress government in the state is not doing anything to spend the Rs 5,000 crore funds given by central government.  The state government has chance to waive off the crop loans like it was done by UP government but it failed in the same alleged Union minister.

Central government has reduced the interest rate on crop loans from 9% to 4 %. The central government has been working to uplift the backward regions and persons in the society but AICC President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi are against this.

MP Shivkumar Udasi, MLAs C T Ravi, Vishvanath Patil, Sanjay Patil, former MLA Abhay Patil, Rajakumar Toppannavar were present.

Speaking to reporters on Mahadayi Issue, he said the state government failed to have meetings of both chief ministers of the state to amicably resolve the issue out of tribunal.

City bus service stopped after death of driver

The city bus service was affected on Monday morning as the drivers and conductors stopped the city bus service after the death of a driver last night and alleged that the NWKRTC officials are responsible for his death.

Driver on the Santi Bastwad bus SM Kazi had complained of pain in his chest last night but the officials did not give him leave and while driving the bus he became uncomfortable and got a cardiac arrest. The Conductor of the bus drove the bus to the Hospital but he was dead by the time.

The Drivers and conductor did not allow any city bus service to commence to protest against this.
