Company backs out from constructing Multilevel Car parking at Bapat Galli

The dream project of building a multi level car parking at the Bapat Galli car parking seems to have met an dead end as the Bell Fluid Mumbai, the company which was awarded the tender has written to the Belagavi city corporation that due to the implementation of GST it will not be feasible to construct the project in the 4.7 crores.

The cost of the tender was 4.7 crores for the Hydraulic System Multi Level Car Parking system.

The plans for the same are been made since 2007 or may be even earlier.

Now the entire process of tendering will have to be commenced which can take anywhere from 3-6 months if all goes well.

First for this tender only one company had put in its bid, hence there were delays in giving the letter of approval and after the same was given the company has backed out sighting GST.

Belagavi gets a holy bath during VVIP visits

Belagavi is a popular place to hang out for a day or two for many frequent visitors, especially from Goa, Pune and Mumbai. Compared to the metros, it’s a tiny city, but with a flavour of mixed culture now.

The resident industrialists in 50’s and 60’s dreamt about making this an industrial city, but somehow, presently this place has become a great educational hub.

Many newly sprung colleges catering various courses has led to increase in the population of the city to great extent. As a result, the civic infrastructure has some how had to be geared up to cope up with conditions, but as we all can see, it has been failing to do so.

The occasion of assembly session, city corporation took all efforts to clean and asphalt all the roads covering the pot holes overnight. All main roads, not only were swept, but washed thoroughly through corners and corners with the power water pumps. Dividers were painted all the reflecting driving signs were cleaned. All the heaps of garbage lying around each corners of the roads were cleaned up in a best manner.

It so felt that this beautiful city took a “holy bath” after long long time! The point is, Why all this? only because of the VIPs are visiting the town? Isn’t it the duty of the city corporation to maintain such cleanliness all the year round?

The citizens don’t need cleanliness but only politicians need?

I am aware, that corporation takes all the actions immediately after making a complaint. If we call the hot line of the city corporation for any complaints, they care to take the note of it for sure. but Why should this happen any way? Why should the system give a chance to complain?

It has a become a habit of the governance on every level, that it won’t act unless you complain. The local corporators and the local area sanitary inspectors lack the basic interest about cleanliness. Someone has to energize all these people with the spirit that NOT only my house, but this whole city belongs to me, and we all must keep it clean all the time!

Journalists produce Kannada movie Jayasurya

Journalists, in real life, tend to be one of the less glamorous species of humanity and even then present the best and worst from the society.

A group of journalists from Belagavi have got together and produced a Kannada movie name Jayasurya.

The movie is the dream of journalist Santosh Shriramdu; he is playing lead role and has also written the story, screenplay, dialogues and lyrics.

The movie is slated for a November 10 release and currently the team is busy in promoting the movie basically in North Karnataka as the movie has the North Karnataka dialect.

Jayasurya is the name of the lead played by Santosh who is a soldier and movie revolves round the caste system and love.

One more attraction to the movie is the role of the Chief mnister played by Mrs Laxmi Hebbalkar, of the Congress. Anjali plays the lead against Santosh who also hails from Belagavi and Journalists Bhairoba Kamble, Chandru Shriramdu, Shivanand Chikkmath and Jitendra Kamble are in a supporting role.

The movie has been extensively shot in North Karnataka only and also has that special North Karnataka dialect which has flavor of its own.

Lone woman murdered in Azad Nagar

54-year-old woman Shehnaz Mokashi was seen by her neighbors in a pool of blood and also her house was ransacked. They informed the police.

Shehnaz Mokashi used to stay all alone at her home in Azad Nagar, unidentified men who are doubted to have kept a close watch over the woman and identifying a soft target killed her and looted her house.

One of her sons stays in Veerbhadra nagar while another son works in the middle east.

Hindu organizations protest against celebrations of Tipu Jayanti

Various Hindu organisations including the VHP, Bajrang Dal and BJP took out a protest march from Rani Chennamma Circle to DC office and gave a memorandum to the DC condemning the act of the State govt of celebrating Tipu Sultan Jayanti.

BJP leader Sanjay Patil said that it is not wrong to consider sending Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to Pakistan, as he had doubts about his religious affiliation.

The memorandum said that the act of State Govt is nothing but appeasement politics of a certain group of voters.

Helipad at Suvarna soudha being repaired for the Big Days

“Government Work Is God’s Work” is inscribed in Kannada and English above the entrance to the Vidhana Soudha Bengaluru. And here in the so called second capital of the state we have the majestic unutilised Suvarna Vidhana Soudha.

Last year sighting reasons of security, ease of traffic etc a Helipad was constructed opposite the SVS. About 20 lakhs was spent on the same, but the same was used only once during the assembly session.

Now this helipad is totally damaged and another few lakhs would be required now to make usable.

The grass is not cleaned, there is water logging and what after Whose Father what goes?

Mahesh Jadhav to be bestowed National award for child welfare

The Government of India, Ministry of Women and Child Development selects 3 individuals from all the states and union territories every year for their exceptional work towards Child Welfare. This year, Mahesh Jadhav, founder of Mahesh Foundation Belagavi has been bestowed with this honour.

Mahesh started Mahesh Foundation when he was just 21. Mahesh Foundation has been working for one of the most neglected and stigmatised part of our society, the People Living with HIV (PLHIV). His first act was to provide shelter to HIV+ orphans. In fact, the first few children that he supported lived in his own home because he was not getting a place to open a care home in 2010. Since those early days, Mahesh has striven to provide dignity and livelihood to people infected or affected with HIV. Today Mahesh Foundation has many projects that benefit the bottom of society in so many ways.

Some of his projects include, Care Home for HIV+ orphans, providing livelihood to women from economically backward families, support to two slums for energy needs, healthcare and educational support to nearly 4000 children in and around Belagavi. They have conducted programs that have impacted over 30000 people.

Mahesh Foundation’s work has been recognised many institutions and individuals. One of the prominent awards it has received is from Karnataka State Government for their work in Child Welfare in 2014.

The latest award is a testimony to the selfless service of Mahesh Jadhav and a matter of pride for Belagavi people as one of their own has been thus honoured. Mahesh attributes his service to the support given by his family and the people of Belagavi.

Mahesh will receive this award from Honorable President of India on 14th November at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi. The Award includes a citation and Rs 1.00 Lakh.

Cyber Criminals Hi-jacking email conversations to divert payments

Since March 2017, Informant Networks, Belagavi has been noticing a combination of a cyber and physical social engineering attack at 3 different companies in the Udyambag Industrial Area in Belagavi. The modus operandi of the criminal group is to hijack email conversations between two businesses and intervene at the point at which financial transactions are supposed to take place.

The attack starts by compromising the email account of one of the two business entities that are normally known to do business, the attacker at this stage just observes the email exchanges between the representatives of the two companies being attacked, once the conversation has come to a finish or when matters of payments are being discussed, the attacker starts impersonating the receiving party in the financial transaction and provides a new account number for the funds to be transferred.

The attackers here take advantage of previously established trust between the two companies and requests for payments to be done to a new account and not to the previous account which would be the account of the legitimate business.

Once the funds are transferred to the attackers account. the money is withdrawn almost immediately and all trails are cold. This combination of a cyber and physical attack is lethal since it takes advantage of a previously established trust.

In these situations it is advisable to reach out to a previously known contact over a previously used phone number and cross check for the correspondence by a new individual claiming to be from the same company.

Over 3,500 police personnel on bandobast duty during winter session

The police department has made massive security arrangements for the VIPs, besides road and traffic bandobast. Over 3,500 police officials and personnel will be deployed.

Police Commissioner T.G. Krishna Bhat said on Wednesday that 2 CoP’s, seven Superintendents of Police, 13 Addl SP, 33 Dy.SPs, 97 CPI, 215 PSIs, 19 WPSI, 284 ASIs, 2720 HPCs/PCs, 200 women PCs will be deployed in and around the SVS and in different parts of the city. Bomb detection and disposal teams had been also kept ready. KSRP, RAF will also be deployed.

Road Side Drinking Water Kiosk in Belagavi City under Smart city project

Under the Smart city project the city of Belagavi will get in phase one new Road Side Drinking Water Kiosks which would supply potable drinking water.

The RO unit that consist of stainless steel Treated water tank of 150 ltrs of capacity with stand, Auto sensor and pre purification by Sand and activated Carbon filter and processed by RO+UV+TDS Control, coin and smart card based Normal water vending unit.

The total estimate for the phase one is Rs. 37,44,325.87

The project is under public convenience & amenities where 70 lakhs have been allocated under Area based development.

As of now about 5 tenders have been floated for various works under the smart city project.

Anand Appugol gets bail from HC

In a huge relief to Anand Appugol, the chairman of the Krantiveer Sangolli Rayanna Cooperative Credit Society, Dharwad bench has granted him bail.

Appugol was arrested in Mumbai on September 17 by the police, following a complaint of the cooperative department, stating the bank has cheated depositors to the tune of Rs 250 crores.

The district court had rejected the bail plea but the Hon High court has granted him bail and he could be out of the jail by tomorrow.

Prohibitory orders imposed for Tipu Sultan Jayanti in Belagavi

In view of ensuing Tiupu sultan Jayanti, Section 144 IPC has been imposed in whole of Belagavi Taluka by the Commissioner of Police apprehending breach of peace and loss of life and public property, stated the Press release issued by Commissioner of Police Krishana Bhatta. 

The press note mentions that as there were protests against the celebration of the Tipu sultan Jayanti by BJP and other Hindu Organizations and to stop any breach of peace and loss of life and public property section 144 of the IPC has been imposed from 6 AM of Nov 10 to 6 am of Nov 11.

Section 144 was promulgated to maintain law and order in the district, as some organisations have declared their intention to oppose Tipu Jayanthi celebrations by the State government, the release added.

National flag to unfurl at 110 mtrs at Belagavi same as Indo-Pak Attari Border

 A 360-foot high (110 metres) flag post, said to be of the same height as one at the Indo-Pak Attari Border will be installed at the Fort Lake Belagavi.

MLA Feroz Saith’s dream project, work has been commenced today and will complete in two months.

The 110 mtrs high flag post will have a 9600 sq feet National flag measuring 80 /120 feet . The estimated cost of the project is 1.62 crores and another 2.5 crores will be spent for Landscaping.

Cantonment Parking attendant has both 20 & 30 parking fee tickets

We have been writing about the Parking fees loot from various places in the city and day after day the LOOT is increasing.

Take this latest incident at Dharmveer Sambhaji Circle (Bogarves) which is under the Cantonment and the Cantonment board has awarded a tender for collection of parking fees.

One family parks a car,

The argument starts, Kal to Rs.20 diya tha aaj 30.

Some silence from the Parking guy, he tears a new Rs.20 receipt and hands over.

So the point here is the correct parking FEE we assume to be Rs.20 but these great guys have printed the Rs.30 parking tickets as well and they give it first if someone confronts them they have the 20 ticket as well.

As per law boards have to be put and FEE has to be mentioned, no where it is put up. The authorities also are not bothered as they get the income from the tender so they are least bothered but when citizens are looted like this they have to come forward and act.

No one actually knows the exact Parking Fee, 30 or 20.

If the fee in reality was 30 the parking guy would have stood adamant which then is his right, but here he hands over a new Rs.20 ticket.

We would request the authorities to tell which is the official and correct parking fee.

Ground Rent Charges for Hawkers reduced

The Belagavi city corporation collects Ground rent from Hawkers and street vendors, and from 26 Oct the prescribed ground rent charges had been hiked to 10,50 & 100; but after intense discussions at the standing committee meeting the rent charges have now been reduced.

Rs. 10 for vendors who sit on ground per day (old rate Rs.8)
Hawkers Rs. 20 per day (Old rate Rs.10)
Bhelpuri, Icecream, Food stalls Rs 50 per day

The hawkers had opposed this steep hike.

Hotel rooms Booked for netas and officials

The city of Belagavi is getting itself ready for the yearly event of the winter session for a 10 days period. The officials of the district are working over time to see that all the things have fallen in line and none of the Netas and higher officials who are are face any kind of issues.

Speacial teams have been formed who will look after food, accommodation, transportation.

Protocol and liaison officers have been appointed for each minister. Around 1700+ rooms have been booked for the netas and the officials from Nov 13 to 24.

Chief minister, Home minister, Revenue minister, Energy minister, Principal secretary will be accommodated at the circuit house.

Ministers will be housed at Fairfield by Marriot, Former chief ministers, DGP, Addl chief secretaries at Effa.

Leader of opposition at Hotel Shankam, MLC’s and MLA’s at Hotel Shankam and Hotel Dennison’s Hubballi.

Directors, commissioner rank officers will stay at Hotel Adarsh Palace, Legislative council officers at Hotel Anupam. CMO’s at Hotel Sai Sangam, Principal secretaries will be at Hotel Pai resort and Ajanata. Others will be lodged at Hotel Sanman, Rohan residency, Hanuman, Satkar, Uday Bhavan, New Uday Bhavan, Pai and Durga Residency.

Kanbargi lake will get a make over under smart city

The Kanbargi Lake which is spread over 7 acres will get a makeover under the Smart city project. The complete makeover of this lake will make it another tourist attraction apart from the fort lake.

Estimated cost for the makeover is Rs.4,28,30,933.82 and duration required for the same is 9 months. This is the 8 work tender floated under smart city project.

However the actual work would only commence in 2018. The first work would be the weirs at the Vaccine depot and work will commence in actual only from Jan 2018.

What we understand is that the lake would be beautified from all sides and one side it will have walking paths, even Ghats with rallying similar to big rivers and the slopes would be adorned by beautiful flowers.

There will benches all along, flower beds, big trees, Kids play area, open Gym area, few Kiosks, an amphitheater with a permanent stage and steps for spectators. On the other side of the lake where the width is small stepped seating will also be arranged.

Several Hexagonal (3) and octagonal(2) gazebos( pavilion structure) will be installed all over the lake.

The lake will have 28 benches, 2 water kiosks, green lawns all over.
