The Commissioner of police has issued a statement that for the festival of Ramzan, it has come to notice that some organizations were illegally blocking such vehicles which had cattle and meat been transported.
The Commissioner has appealed that in such a scenario when there is news or information of illegal transport of meat or cattle the same must be informed to the Police first. If the some organizations take action on their own stringent action as per law would be initiated against them.

Final year Mechanical Engineering students of Jain College of Engineering, Belagavi have developed a Low capacity pressure reactor. The reactor is completely functional and will revolutionize the production of biodiesel. The idea of Low capacity pressure reactor is conceptualized, fabricated and tested on milk scum oil and ceiba pentandra.
The students Rajat, Tushar, Rohit and Robin have worked on the idea and were guided by Prof. Bhaskar Bogar. The idea of biodiesel production was sponsored by Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology (KSCST).
The Low Capacity Pressure reactor can be used for producting 2nd and 3rd generation biodiesels. Students have used the reactor for biodiesel production using Milk scum oil and ceiba pentandra. In order to improve the performance of biodiesel, graphene oxide nano particles are used. The reactor will help to demonstrate to the students and research scholars about the trans-esterification process, which is one of the methods used to produce Biodiesel. This idea will also contribute immensely for reducing dependence on crude oil, which is one of the largest imported foreign item in the country.

81 Autos ferrying school children were fined today by the traffic police for carrying excess passengers.
More than a dozen children packed in maxi vans and about 10 children travelling in autorickshaws, some squeezed in the trunk and their satchels hanging out of the vehicle… are common scenes in the city.
Auto’s shouldn’t carry excess number of passengers, an auto can carry three adult passengers or six children but 10-15 students are crammed into it. Police say we have taken action against a few van drivers for violation of rules and the department would step up the drive to check such violations.
Karnataka Motor Vehicles (conditions for vehicles engaged in transport of school children) Rules, 2012. The fine amount for carrying excess passengers is Rs. 100 per person and drivers are getting away by paying the fine. However, for violation of other permit conditions, drivers will have to pay a penalty in court.
According to the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (conditions for vehicles engaged in transport of school children) Rules, 2012, each school should have a committee to look into safe transportation of children, transportation fee and identification of bus-stops. The committee consisting of representatives of parents, private cab drivers, school staff are responsible for verifying compliance with norms. However, schools have not implemented it and majority are unaware of it.

Athlete Sheetal Dinesh Kolhapure from Belagavi has won 2 Gold and 2 silver Medals at the 38th National masters Athletics championships held at Mangluru in the age group of 30+ women. Sheetal won gold in 1500 mtrs and 4×100 Relay while she got Silver medals in 800 mtrs and 400 mtrs.
Last year she had won three medals in World Master Games 2017 held at World Master Olympics in Auckland, New Zealand.
She works as a physical director in a private school and draws a monthly salary of Rs 5,000 and has over 100 medals in her kitty, but govt support did not come her way. She is a long-distance runner, who can run 1,500 meters, and win medals for the country.
But, like many other athletes in the country, the run for funds to fuel her sporting spirit, is beginning to tire her out. Dinesh husband of Sheetal works in a factory and they have two children, whom she aspires to make sports persons. Due to financial restrictions, she was unable to follow the diet that a sportsperson is supposed to and is able only to eat regular meals.
Now she has been selected to represent the nation at the Asia Pacific Masters games 2018, Penang, MALAYSIA to be held in September 2018.
Now she is training hard for the competition but the lack of funds is hampering her participation and also her training. India Master Athletics Association has said that all the expenditure will have to be borne b the athlete alone.

Belagavi was in the record books for installing the tallest nation flag here but now the standing committee chairman Sarla Herekar has declined to approve the use of funds from the corporation and she said as this was installed using the special 100 crore funds, the expenditure should be done under the MLA funds alone.
The flag was torn on 5 occasions and the five flags supplied have now been exhausted, to get one more flag atleast 1.3 lakhs would be needed.

However Smt Herekar has agreed to pay 57 lakhs for the expenses of Indira Canteens but the corporations does not have money for the national flag.

Prashuram Wagmare, the alleged shooter of Gauri Lankesh, confessed before the police that he pressed the trigger on September 5, 2017 thus killing Gauri and sources said that Wagmare was recruited to kill Gauri and he was trained to use an air pistol with 500 rounds in Belgaum for months before the murder, reports the IndiaToday.
Earlier as well new was broken that the entire plan to kill Lankesh was hatched in a hotel in Belagavi.
Wagmare returned to Bangalore on September 3, 2017 and tried to kill Gauri the next day but the attempt failed. On September 5 he managed to kill Gauri and returned to Bijapur the same night.
He told the police that he was not sure what type of gun was given to him on the day of the murder. He said that the gun recoiled and hurt his hand.

The spree of shops constructed on the Sai Mandir road near First gate will soon be converted into an Archeological site and it is very likely that it would be made into an monument, a monument which shows the World how the tax payers money is put to utter waste and the promises made are never fulfilled.
On the eve of the Vishwa Kannada Sammelana held in March 2011 in the city, many shops were demolished in many areas like Kelkar Bag & Sai Mandir area. The City Corporation then built 48 shops on the design made by Third space Studio Belagavi.

Praveen Bavdekar of Thirdspace Studio had told this blog that, ” The repetitive landscape of neighborhood shops is transformed into an urban sculpture by emphasizing the walls in between and creating a meta form responsive to the context. The walls in-between shops are made explicit, by projecting beyond the shops thus creating a blurred space between shop and street. ”
This structure has been kept unutilized since it was constructed in 2012-13. It is 2017 now and even now the same is not utilized for reasons unknown. Out of the 48 shops 35 have already been allotted but they haven’t been giving the papers of the same, so the persons can’t come in start their business. It was decided that the shops would be let out on an advance of Rs.50,000 and no rent would have to be paid for the next 5 years.

Worst part being the contractor was not paid and he had asked for those shops to be auctioned, but the officers somehow managed to save their skin and now what our sources have told is that all the shops would now be auctioned online. Then what about the 35 persons who had lost their source of livelihood during the Vishwa Kannada Sammelana where their business was removed and these shops were built only to rehabilitate them. But now that they plan to auction it which is also very unclear, the main motto of constructing these shops has been lost.
And after 7 years those people who are waiting to be rehabilitated can only say whose shops are those anyways?

The South Western Railways on Saturday issued a public caution for tourists and travellers stating that tigers and leopards have been sighted along the Castle Rock-Kulem railway track section.
“It is reported that tigers and leopards have been spotted near the railway track between Castle Rock and Kulem ghat section. Therefore, the general public and tourists are advised to be cautious while moving on Castle Rock-Kulem ghat section,” a statement issued by the public relations officer of the South Western Railways said. The section, which covers parts of Goa and North Karnataka, is located in the dense Western Ghat forests.

The work on RoB (to be named as Mahatma Basaveshwara Bridge) at Gogte circle was commenced on October 14, 2017 and has been making a slow progress as the estimates had to hiked.
The estimate was 14 crores but now after cost escalation the new estimate is Rs 20 crore and due to this the work on the RoB has slowed down.
Officials say they will require another 2 months for the completion of the Gogte circle RoB as the girders for the same have also arrived.
The work on RoB on Third Gate will only be commenced after the RoB at Gogte circle is opened for public.
With this announcement traffic snarls which will come down to some extent will however continue at first and second gate.
Suresh Angadi, Anil Benake also visited the RoB and reviewed the work and asked the contractors to complete the work.

Sandeep Tekriwal, Raju Nayak, Abhijeet Pariswadkar, Kalmesh Karikal & Basavraj Gugawad decided to take up this challenge and successfully completed the journey to Kolhapur in 6 hours.
They started their journey at 5 am and returned back to Belagavi at 11.45 PM.

Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna who was on a visit to Belagavi was unhappy with the roads and potholes.
He asked the officers to go ahead and carry out repairs, filling of potholes which have affected vehicular movement.
The minister further said, now there is no need to wait for financial sanctions from the ministry. Once you complete all the works, I will release the necessary funds. Please think that I have given you a blank cheque on this matter.
Minister also asked his officers to work in co-ordination of the Local MLA’s as they know more about their constituency. Also speak to the public and decide which roads needs to be repaired on priority.
