FAKE or Artificial eggs sold in Belagavi

FAKE or Artificial eggs made out of plastic have been found selling in Belagavi. Vinayak Lokur shared this video of Eggs he had brought from a store in Guru Prasad Nagar.

It has no smell when broken and feels like Plastic when cracked and also takes more effort than normal to crack it.

How to find out Fake Egg:

eggs-fakeThe white and yolk of fake egg quickly mix together after cracking it, unlike the real ones.

Fake eggs have slightly shinier, harder and rougher shells than the real ones.

Fake eggs also have a rubbery lining inside the shells.

You will hear sloshing sounds when you shake a fake egg as the liquid will flow from the solid agent.

The real eggs smell like raw meat while the fake ones don’t smell at all.

Cracking a real egg lightly will generate a crisp sound when compared to a fake egg.

And lastly, the fake eggs doesn’t attract insects like ants and flies like the real eggs does.

Accountability is for citizens only not for Govt Administration

$
0
0

Accountability is an elusive concept, but understanding where it originates can help citizens find ways to hold governments accountable.
As governance is primarily a series of service operations with the ultimate objective of maximizing citizens’ welfare, use of management principles such as the Six Sigma concepts (data, focus on clients/citizens, quality) combined with Lean thinking (process flow, minimizing the costs of unnecessary complexity) can help to transform government service organizations into more efficient and citizen friendly agencies.

But we are a nation where Accountability is for citizens only not for Govt Administration and agencies.
For instance, we have so many pothole laden roads are the engineers ever held responsible for the same?

Every year crores and crores of rupees are spent by the corporation, PWD agencies in extensive pothole patch repairs. Because of adverse media coverage, these agencies do patch repairs of main streets in urban areas and main highways in rural areas after the monsoon season are over.  By lanes in towns and cities and some secondary roads in rural areas usually, remain neglected for years.

The current hot topic hovering around Belagavi is the use of Plastic. The corporation has all of a sudden awakened and enlightened for the better we must say, but the way it is going to shops with torches and searching each and every rack for plastic bags and then imposing a fine.
The ones involved may not even know the act, as some goods come with plastic bags from the manufacturer they also wanted to seize them.

sanchayni-pot-holes
File Photo

But the Govt agency is not interested in stopping this at the manufacturing level or the ones who sell them. They find easy targets like shops and fine them. It is true when at fault you have to pay for it. But the question here is why only the Common citizens?

One more daunting apathy, especially in Belagavi, is the approach of the Police in imposing fines for nonwearing of helmets and other documents. But we hardly see them performing their main duty of maintaining traffic. We have posted about this a zillion times, but the rules are for the common man. The police jeep can be parked in Ramdev Galli for 20 mins no one asks, but when I just stop the car so that passengers alight I am fined for no parking.

One school of thought will say the wrong has to penalized. True, but the accountability must be both ways.

Take one more instance, the taxmen will send notice of some kind of lethargy in the self-assessment return one has filed. Notices are sent to people who have paid tax only as that is the only record they have. The one who has never paid any tax but is still liable roams about freely but the taxmen have no data.
The Corporation does it regularly with the Property tax. The ones who have paid are the only who are asked have you paid or the property is surveyed to find out if you have hidden something. But there are 5 storey structures who have not paid tax for years but the corporation has no information about them hence only the common man who pays his taxes is on their radar.

Each department must be made accountable, it is not the common man who has to be held accountable always but the Govt Administration must also be held accountable for its lethargy.

Plastic ban and alternatives

Due to the harmful effects of plastic, the Government of Karnataka has taken a proactive step to ban the use of Plastics in the State and make Karnataka a Plastic-free State. Karnataka State passed the statewide plastic ban order on March 11, 2016: (Plastic Ban Notification) under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act 1986 vide. Gazette Notification No. FEE 17 EPC 2012, Bangalore dated 11.03.2016. It was published in the Karnataka Gazette on the same date.

The government notification makes specific mention that plastic, no matter its thickness, is banned across the State. “No shopkeeper, vendor, wholesale dealer, retailer, trader, hawker or salesman shall use plastic carry bags, plastic banners, plastic buntings, flex, plastic flags, plastic plates, plastic cups, plastic spoons, cling film and plastic sheets for spreading on dining table, Non Woven, irrespective of thickness including the above items made of thermacol and plastic, which use plastic micro beeds”.

The only exemption granted is for the export units, apart from the plastic used for milk and milk products and plant nurseries.

With the Karnataka government ordering a blanket ban on single-use plastics, some individuals and establishments were continuing to use them as they have a CPCB certification ‘compostable’ bags. The point is to ban the use of single-use plastic, as these will just add to the solid waste collection in the city and state. These are not reusable like cloth bags, steel bottles or cutlery. It is also not possible to verify if each bag is indeed compostable says the KPSCB.

Once Upon a Monsoon

by Sameer Majli

Memories often form the brightest part of our thoughts. There always is the temptation to commence a conversation with “Good old days”. While change is a more permanent feature than status quo on the face of the planet, the mind always wanders and hovers around what things used to be ‘Once Upon a Time’.

belgaum-rain
File photo – Arun

I am your own Belagavi aka Belgaum, erstwhile Venugram and just like my inhabitants, I am gladdened by the arrival of the much awaited monsoon. Its always a wonderful feeling when the elements of nature emerge in a whole new bathed glory. The withered grass awakens to a whole new lease of life, the trees unleash their enchanting green and everything assumes the beauty of the excitement of a new born. Life seems more alive and the freshness of the air is almost intoxicating. The dark shroud of the cloud is ominous no more since it brings wet promises of times that are important for sustenance and subsistence for the year to follow. The sun has its share of the hide and seek. Each downpour brings in waters accumulated from far off lands. I sometimes wonder where and from which distant lands, the clouds gather their booty.  The parched mother earth eagerly gulps its fill as the accumulating waters trickle down to the depths to create a store which is tapped by all forms of life.rain

While each monsoon may seem the same yearly spectacle, there is always the memory reminiscent of good old days when, maybe, the spectacle was even more spectacular. In good old times, the behaviour of the clouds was different and more predictable. The punctuality of the monsoons functioned like clockwork. Come the first week of June and a resolute blanket of the dark clouds would set in, refusing to budge for over two months. The local folk would largely crave to remain indoors. The wet soil would accumulate a characteristic chill which would soon transcend to take the form of a biting wet cold and the residents would draw on their warmest clothes and even snuggle cosily in the depth of warm blankets. The ice cream shops would be shut for the term and the atmosphere would be thick with the aroma of hot tea and fried food.

The green Fields
The green Fields

Puddles in the streets with water assuming the red shades of the soil and threatening to leave stubborn patches on clothes would signal the arrival of wet prosperity. The expanses of the paddy fields would be overflowing with water with tender sprouts struggling to hold on to the soil for dear life with an ambition to feed the human kind. The farmers bearing the gusty wind would be toiling heedless of the cold and the breeze to ensure that the little sprouts would get due justice for their efforts.

Small lakes at the outskirts would overflow and make their way to the scant human habitation of the extension areas and little kids and not so little kids would get a chance to try their hands at fishing in a town devoid of any major water resource. The catch of the day would be displayed proudly to parents and the little fish would be deposited in neighbourhood wells to extend the delight for another day.

The whole canvas a sheer delight to the senses. Good old yester years…..Will it be the same again of will it just be a tale that starts with “Once Upon a Monsoon?”

In the meeting of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), it was decided that the Auto rikshaws will have to charge as per the meter and the fare decided by the RTA from August 15 2019.

A meeting will be called of the Auto rikshaw owners, drivers and the same would be informed to them to soon, said DC Dr. S B Bommanhalli.

Commissioner of police, RTO, Weights, and measures along with other departments will finalize the fare in the coming week, the DC added.

Pre paid auto service at the Railway Station and CBT would also be recommenced on August 15 it was told.

The city has around 6000 autos and around 4000 autos have meters said the RTO officer Mr. Magdum.

auto ka meter down karo
Illustration: Bharat Jagtap

No parking for tempos near CBT in a vicinity of 500 mtrs said Commissioner of Police Lokesh Kumar.

Auto will have permit number mentioned. The information about the Auto, permit and Driver information will also have to be put inside the Auto.

On earlier occasions as well such steps were initiated but each time the system has failed in a month.

The prepaid auto centers never work and if they work they have a nexus with the auto drivers which we have brought to the fore earlier as well.

For years now, the citizens of Belagavi have been harassed by the auto drivers by charging more, like for 3 kms Rs.180 were charged recently.
The arrogance of the Auto drivers is always at its peak, they have the right to turn anywhere, stop anywhere and speak any how with the citizens.
Hope this time around the administration will implement this.

In what can be termed as a very grave inhuman act, a girl child was thrown out of the running train near Londa last Sunday.

Fortunately, some farmers, who heard the cries of the injured child, saved it.

A one-year-old baby is believed to have been thrown out of a running train in the deep jungles between Londa and Akrali in Khanapur on Sunday.

Jako rakhe sayian maar sake na koi! It is a miracle that the baby survived as the area receives very heavy rainfall and the dense forest is home to many animals.
